Promotion of positive ageing is a key priority for the HSE and Baile Mhuire who collaboratively deliver a Bone Health strength and conditioning programme (Better Balance Better Bones BBBB)for the well elderly living in the community in Kerry. The aim of this programme is to build bone health and reduce the risk associated with reduced mobility and loss of bone strength. The Better Balance Better Bones programme is currently provided by Baile Mhuires exercise facilitators who provide the programme in thirteen locations throughout the county. In addition to the BBBB programme, Baile Mhuire are also collaborating with the HSE to provide a Falls programme for those at higher risk of falling. Currently two of the Baile Mhuire exercise facilitators are trained as postural stability instructors and are facilitating the programme in North and mid-Kerry. Baile Mhuire also manages an accessible gym (Neuro Functional Training Gym) which provides supervised exercise programmes for those with neurological conditions. Baile Mhuire have developed this purpose built exercise facility and facilitate the programme in collaboration with the HSE. Clients accessing the service are assessed by a HSE physiotherapist who prescribes an exercise programme which is implemented under the supervision of the exercise facilitators. You will report to the Lead Physiotherapist/Senior Excercise Facilitator and the Board of Directors Professional Duties Conduct screening and risk stratification of individuals at risk or with a health condition; Conduct appropriate testing, functional and physical fitness assessments and interpret results Motivate and encourage participants to adhere to regular physical activity and exercise programmes. Contribute to the development of Bone Health programme through feedback, support and promotion. Complete administrative duties as required for the Better Bone Health programme. Report to and liaise with the Lead Physiotherapist /Senior Exercise Facilitator and other Exercise Facilitators responsible for program Attend staff meetings where required. Engage in continuing professional development and keep abreast of research and practice developments in bone strengthening programmes. Undertake other responsibilities consistent with the nature of the post as directed by the Board of Baile Mhuire Day Centre including programmes of research and development. Hygiene, Infection Prevention and Control The post holder will implement best practice in relation to hygiene, infection prevention and control, adhere to all relevant policies, protocols, procedures and guidelines, carry out and comply with audits/evaluations of the service and act as a role model in the promotion of good hygiene, infection prevention and control standards and practices. Health & Safety The post holder will comply with health and safety responsibilities as set out in the BMs policies and procedures. Eligibility Criteria The successful candidate must: Have a relevant exercise related course/degree to a minimum level 7 standard which has covered the physiology of exercise and relevant medical conditions. Relevant experience of working with older adults, provision of exercise classes and those with neurological conditions desirable. Members of Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS IRELAND) Health A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Character Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of a good character Transport You must have access to transport as the post will involve treavel. Knowledge & Professional Knowledge Demonstrate excellent knowledge of exercise prescription and evidence-based practice. Demonstrate relevant knowledge of the effects of ageing on bone health and the role exercise plays in prevention. Demonstrate relevant knowledge of the effects of various medical conditions and the role exercise has to play in maintaining mobility and fitness.
