Job Description: Health & Safety Officer
Location: Cork City
Employment Type: Full-Time / Permanent
Role Overview: We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Health & Safety Officer to support a busy production environment. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving health and safety standards across site operations, ensuring compliance with legislation, and fostering a culture of safety awareness at all levels. The role involves monitoring and mitigating workplace risks, conducting assessments, supporting incident investigations, and ensuring that effective policies, procedures, and training are in place. The Health & Safety Officer will liaise with external stakeholders, regulators, and insurers where required.
Responsibilities
General
- Identify, evaluate, and mitigate health and safety risks across the site.
- Support delivery of health and safety objectives in line with company and regulatory requirements.
- Participate in incident investigations, ensuring root causes are identified and corrective actions are implemented.
- Keep up to date with applicable health and safety legislation and regulations.
- Support internal stakeholders to ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, including documentation and reporting.
- Monitor adherence to safety standards, audits, inspections, and risk assessments, ensuring timely closure of corrective actions.
- Provide regular reporting on safety metrics, incidents, and progress against objectives.
- Contribute to long-term planning and implementation of health and safety initiatives.
- Manage purchase order requests through SAP where required.
Health & Safety Risk Assessment
- Support the development, delivery, and review of risk assessments across site activities.
- Work with teams to implement risk mitigation measures that protect employees’ health and wellbeing.
- Monitor progress and ensure agreed actions are completed effectively.
- Assist in the deployment and monitoring of health and safety policies, procedures, and programmes.
- Conduct workplace inspections to verify compliance with established policies and standards.
- Support the rollout of safety-related projects, campaigns, and wellbeing initiatives.
- Promote health and safety awareness across all levels of the organisation.
- Provide input to training programmes and actively encourage safe working practices.
External Relations
- Liaise with regulatory authorities, insurers, and external auditors as required.
- Provide support during inspections, audits, and site visits.
Legal Compliance
- Ensure compliance with all statutory reporting requirements (e.g., accident notifications).
- Support management of insurance and claims processes relating to health and safety matters.
Qualifications
- Relevant qualification in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g. NEBOSH, IOSH, or equivalent).
- Strong knowledge of current H&S legislation and best practice.
- Experience working in a manufacturing, production, or similar industrial environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience in incident investigations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence at all levels.
- Experience with SAP or similar systems.
- Background in wellbeing initiatives or safety culture development.
