About the Team
The Technical Operations (Tech Ops) team builds and maintains the core edge to cloud foundation that powers all Protex AI systems, ensuring scalable data infrastructure, robust edge-to-cloud connectivity, and high-performance backend services. We support edge deployments for real-time computer vision applications and deliver resilient systems to enable proactive workplace safety at global scale.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Lead System Reliability Engineer to join our Technical Operations (Tech Ops) team, taking ownership of our Linux-based edge platform and its global deployment footprint.
Responsibilities
- This is a hands-on, high-impact role focused on system reliability, hardware support, and network configuration.
- You’ll build and automate the systems and processes that keep our edge infrastructure secure, performant, and always connected, from local devices to the cloud.
- You’ll work closely with our engineering, implementation and support teams to ensure our systems run smoothly in complex customer environments.
- Design and implement high-availability computer vision serving infrastructure capable of handling the needs of external customers and high-demand workloads
- Lead through automation the incident response for critical AI services, ensuring rapid recovery and systematic improvements from each incident
- Build and maintain a metrics driven and cost optimised edge platform so we can predict and iteratively improve our efficiency against company scale.
- Whether it's writing automation software, implementing a AWS Greengrass component, tuning and automating IP table firewall rules, or maintaining remote access and diagnostic tools, you’ll be at the heart of making our safety systems dependable at scale.
What You’ll Need
- 8+ years of professional experience in systems, embedded, or infrastructure engineering
- Deep expertise with Linux-based operating systems
- Strong coding background in Python, Bash scripting, and system automation
- Strong experience in cloud technologies, preferably AWS.
- Experience configuring and troubleshooting networking stacks, such as firewalls and proxies
- Excellent debugging and performance-tuning skills across hardware and OS layers
- Ability to triage and resolve complex system issues in production environments
- Ability to influence technical direction, mentor peers, and drive execution
- Strong analytical, project management, documentation and process-building skills to support scale
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field
Nice to Have
- Experience in deploying and maintaining edge or IoT devices in industrial environments
- Previous experience in a support or sysadmin experience in a corporate setting.
- A background in understanding baseline system and platform performance and iteratively demonstrating to leadership a progression path against scale.
- Previous experience in AI
Why Join Us
At Protex AI, you'll work on cutting-edge problems with a mission-driven team. You’ll have ownership, autonomy, and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on workplace safety around the world.
Protex AI is an inclusive and equal opportunities employer. We are committed to creating an equitable workplace for everyone regardless of gender, civil status, family status, sexual orientation, religion, age, disability, education level, or race.
