What can you expect?
Marsh is the insurance broking and risk management business of Marsh & McLennan Companies, Inc. (MMC), a global professional services firm, headquartered in New York. Marsh Tech is seeking to appoint a hands‑on, delivery oriented, AI native full‑stack Lead Engineer to lead engineering teams to deliver some of our key strategic software development initiatives. This is a leadership role within the Marsh Product Development & Engineering team (PDE) and is based in the MMC Innovation Centre in Dublin.
The role of the Lead Engineer is to lead the engineering team in the development of advanced, innovative, scalable, secure, and user‑centric solutions that delight our business colleagues and customers. You will drive the technical direction of the software product to deliver to business needs, and fully embrace and incorporate the use of AI tooling in the engineering process.
We are looking for candidates who have the aptitude, ability and willingness to experiment with and productionise new technologies to deliver software solutions that bring the best of what tech can offer to our business colleagues and users. Your leadership will ensure the products are built with best practices, focusing on security, performance, maintainability, and innovative AI integration.
This is a fantastic opportunity for the right candidate to lead and shape strategic technology capabilities for Marsh.
We will count on you to:
- Lead and inspire engineering teams: Manage and mentor a small team of experienced and AI‑enabled full‑stack engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, quality, and continuous improvement. This is a hands‑on role, where you will lead by example and show by doing.
- Design and build innovative enterprise solutions: Develop scalable, secure and robust full‑stack applications that utilise the latest technology, including AI, to deliver business value and competitive advantage.
- Set and deliver the technology roadmap: Work closely with product managers, architects, and other stakeholders to understand the opportunity domain and align the engineering team with business goals.
- Lead automation and innovation in the software engineering process: AI is revolutionising the software engineering process and we are looking for leaders who embrace these opportunities and can lead colleagues and teams on the transformation journey.
- Collaborate across teams to improve standards: Work with other technology groups and stakeholders to ensure alignment with and continuous improvement of firm‑wide tooling, standards and processes.
- Stay relevant in the technology conversation: Our world is changing as never before, and we need engaged and inspiring leaders to keep us at the forefront of innovation.
What you need to have
- Experience in building and leading distributed technology teams working on complex problems, and enterprise scale business critical systems.
- Deep full stack and cloud native engineering experience in a wide range of technologies. We use a standard modern tech stack, but your attitude and general experience are more important to us than knowledge of specific technologies.
- Experience of modern cloud application architectures, and in development environments and cultures focused on achieving a very high degree of re‑use.
- AI‑native, with experience of using AI in the software development process, and building solutions with AI‑enabled components.
- An agile approach and experience relevant to a global enterprise, including an incremental delivery mindset; experience of different software delivery methods; and comfortable working in a matrix organisation, with distributed teams from different cultures.
What makes you stand out
- Your problem solving and critical thinking skills: you can simplify complexity, and bring creative, elegant solutions to solve complex challenges.
- You can ‘talk business’. You don’t need to be an insurance expert, but you can collaborate effectively with non‑technical colleagues, and rapidly relate business opportunities to the technology that will deliver them.
- Your experience with large‑scale, complex, business critical globally deployed solutions. You bring real world experience of e.g. site reliability engineering (SRE) practices, etc.
- Great communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working in a distributed environment, with an ability to form great working relationships across teams, locations, and time zones.
- Credible at all levels of the organisation: can communicate effectively at C‑suite level, and with on‑the‑ground engineers and development teams.
Why join our team
- We help you be your best through professional development opportunities, interesting work and supportive leaders.
- We foster a vibrant and inclusive culture where you can work with talented colleagues to create new solutions and have impact for colleagues, clients and communities.
- Our scale enables us to provide a range of career opportunities, as well as benefits and rewards to enhance your well‑being.
