Berkshire Hathaway Specialty Insurance (BHSI) has an exciting opportunity for a General Casualty Underwriter to join our Casualty team in Dublin.

Day-to-day responsibilities of this role include contributions towards the growth and build-out of General Casualty business across all relevant distribution channels, pre-qualifying accounts, utilising underwriting acumen to select risks within the company’s risk appetite and expanding and developing new business opportunities with brokers and customers.

We are seeking an individual who is energised, passionate and who is always striving towards excellence. You should be comfortable working closely with actuaries, the claims team, and underwriters from across the broader team. In addition, necessary character, relationship building and negotiating skills to help lead and further build a profitable book of business are of the upmost importance. The successful candidate will be focused on a positive customer experience, while maintaining sound underwriting discipline. This position is a great fit for a Casualty Underwriter looking to expand their responsibilities and underwriting knowledge with an experienced and well-regarded unit within a top global insurance company.

Duties & Responsibilities:

- Support the development and build-out of the Irish Casualty team that is consistent with the team’s focus on profitable growth
- Establish, develop, and expand broker and customer relationships
- Underwrite Primary and Excess accounts while ensuring appropriate analysis and documentation without sacrificing discipline, diligence, and quality service
- Effectively communicate the BHSI value proposition
- Be a positive ambassador for the company by demonstrating integrity and leadership in the marketplace

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:

- 2+ years of Casualty Underwriting experience
- Existing broker and customer relationships, or the ability to develop strong broker and customer relationships quickly
- Experience and understanding of policy forms
- Strong collaboration skills and ability to work in a team environment
- Strong communication skills including negotiation and presentation experience
