Speculative Application for PHD Graduates (E2024142)

We are the people behind Ireland's electricity grid. We operate the power system with world-leading levels of variable asynchronous renewable generation, ensuring that everyone has power when they need it. But that's not all; we are now transforming the power system for future generations.

And that's just the beginning of our story. We have a critical purpose: to transform the power system to enable our society to reduce carbon emissions and meet climate change and net-zero ambitions.

The Opportunity

We are seeking innovative, solution-focused, and resilient individuals with a PhD and an engineering/energy background to join the Chief Digital and Information Office (CDIO). You will play a key role in the transition to a low-carbon energy future.

The CDIO is responsible for envisioning and planning the power system and market of the future, as well as innovating in how we operate and develop the grid to meet climate change targets and decarbonise the electricity system. Creating a culture of continuous improvement that drives technical and process innovation is central to these roles.

We have multiple opportunities across CDIO where individuals can apply their academic knowledge and significantly contribute to how we operate the future power system and market.

We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have a PhD and experience in any of the following areas:

- Power system modelling and analysis using software such as PSS/E, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, and Plexos
- Design and development of operational systems, tools, system services, standards, and policies
- Energy economics and policy
- Market design
- Development and integration of new technologies and innovations (e.g., Hybrid technologies, Battery Energy Storage Systems, Low Carbon Inertia Services)

If you don't see a role that matches your experience and background, please upload a short cover letter with your CV (using the Apply Now button below) and start a conversation with us about possible future roles.
