Job Title: Perioperative Nurse (Scrub / Recovery / Anaesthetic) Location: Mullingar, Co. Westmeath Employment Type: Full-Time, Permanent Department: Theatre / Perioperative Services Reports To: Theatre Manager / Director of Nursing About the Role We are seeking skilled and committed Perioperative Nurses to join our expanding private hospital in Mullingar. We welcome applicants with experience in Scrub, Recovery (PACU), or Anaesthetics. Successful candidates will play a key role in delivering safe, high-quality, patient-centred care across the perioperative journey. Key Responsibilities1. Scrub Nurse Duties Prepare operating theatre, instruments, and equipment in line with clinical and infection-control standards. Scrub and assist surgeons during operative procedures across a range of specialties. Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and maintain accurate instrument, swab, and equipment counts. Maintain sterile fields and uphold theatre safety protocols at all times. 2. Recovery (PACU) Nurse Duties Provide immediate post-anaesthetic care, monitoring patient airway, vital signs, pain, nausea, and overall stability. Manage post-operative complications promptly and effectively. Deliver patient assessment, reassurance, and discharge readiness checks. 3. Anaesthetic Nurse Duties Assist anaesthetists during induction, maintenance, and emergence from anaesthesia. Prepare and check anaesthetic equipment, medications, and emergency supplies. Support airway management, patient positioning, and perioperative monitoring. General Responsibilities (All Perioperative Roles) Deliver safe, evidence-based care following hospital policies, HIQA standards, and professional guidelines. Participate in pre-operative assessment, patient identification, and safety checklists (e.g., WHO Surgical Safety Checklist). Accurately document all care, observations, and interventions in patient records. Uphold infection prevention and control procedures, including equipment cleaning and environmental hygiene. Collaborate effectively with surgeons, anaesthetists, HCAs, and theatre colleagues to ensure smooth patient flow. Participate in audits, quality improvement initiatives, and continuous service development. Maintain professional competence and comply with NMBI standards and CPD requirements. Requirements Registered General Nurse (RGN) with NMBI registration and eligibility to work in Ireland. Experience in a perioperative setting (Scrub, PACU, or Anaesthetic nursing). Strong clinical assessment skills and commitment to patient safety. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities. Ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary environment. Desirable Postgraduate qualification or additional training in perioperative nursing, anaesthetics, or recovery. Experience in a private hospital or acute surgical environment. ALS/BLS certification.
