Purpose of Position: The Career Development & Employability team is an innovative, impact driven and pro-active unit within National College of Ireland focused on developing student employability. The team within Careers are highly motivated and results driven and Careers and Work Placement Advisors come from a diverse range of backgrounds including Higher Education Careers Services, Recruitment Consultancy, Graduate Recruitment Roles, Science, Youth Work and Teaching bound by a commitment to student career development. This role will have a specific focus on securing work placements for a caseload of undergraduate and postgraduate students. Reporting to: Manager of Career Development & Employability Key Relationships: Head of Career Development & Employability Director of Student Services Work Placement Supervisor Registrar Students Deans & Faculty Sc hool Co-ordinators and administrators External Clients Career Development & Employability Team Key Responsibilities: Sourcing and securing relevant work opportunities for a caseload of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in line with placement targets. Promoting the work placement programme to employers and ensuring work placement targets are met for the different caseloads. Developing strong links with the schools and faculty in order to meet with their current and future work placement requirements. Providing assistance to students with a disability and devise tailored solutions for them. Secure a range of opportunities that are well matched to the caseload of students. Managing the recruitment process from start to finish including advertising opportunities to students, shortlisting candidates, screening applicants, briefing candidates face to face and over the phone, arranging interviews, providing feedback and making offers. Ensuring that all contractual paperwork is completed by students, employers and academics. Delivering placement preparation classes and organising a suite of employer and placement alumni networking events to drive placement success. Promoting and developing Erasmus placements. Developing and updating best practice procedures around work placement to ensure quality and consistency across programmes Conducting check ins with students and employers. Surveying all participants annually and acting on feedback. Maintaining accurate records and placement documentation, including assessment and compliance data, using the systems in place. Designing and delivering careers classes, providing expert advice (individually, in group sessions and via webinars and other online means) in areas including career development, employability, job applications and job search strategies. Working with students in groups and individually to achieve their career goals - implementing the necessary interventions to make this possible and then tracking progress and reporting on same. Pro-actively developing strategic employer and alumni relationships. Researching, writing, updating and editing career information and labour market intelligence materials. Support project work undertaken by the Career Development & Employability team in areas including but not confined to disability, inclusion, quality improvement, the development of online resources and IT systems to enhance the student placement experience. Develop innovations in delivery and service in line with international best practice. Represent NCI on relevant professional associations. To take a flexible approach to work (attendance at early morning and evening meetings will be required on occasion). These duties provide a framework for the role and should not be regarded as a definitive list. Building and maintaining relationships with employers and professional organisations to maximise the work placement opportunities available to NCI students. Core Requirements: Target driven graduate with at least 3-5 years' experience within: Career guidance Work placement Agency Recruitment Outplacement Business Development Relevant postgraduate qualification in Guidance, Counselling, Careers /Career Coaching or a commitment to securing same once in role. Understanding of the evolving graduate labour market and the employability challenges facing diverse student groups. Competencies: Approach to work: Positive, enthusiastic, solution focused approach to work with the ability to self-manage and contribute positively to a team environment that is focused on continuous self-improvement. Ability to work on multiple tasks simultaneously, operate flexibly and shift focus with changing priorities and demands and to deliver the outputs required within NCI Careers Team. Track record of meeting and exceeding targets. Service Delivery: Ability to use translate stakeholder requirements into engaging and impactful career interventions (e.g. Modules, resources, events.). Relationship Management: Commitment to delivering best in class service to students. Experience in business development with a range of clients and partners and the ability to build and maintain strong mutually beneficial working relationships with staff, faculty, employers, industry bodies and peers in other institutions. Guidance and Advice: Understanding of employability and the ability to support, guide and advise students, graduates, NCI staff, employers innovatively and flexibly whilst making effective use of high impact initiatives. Communication Skills: Excellent communication skills, strong digital literacy, and the ability to engage, inspire and influence at all levels. The ability to deliver presentations, seminars and workshops to a high standard. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills Reporting, Data & IT Skills: Strong reporting abilities - the role holder will be required to report regularly on progress of all projects and activities. A keen interest in using data and impact measures to continually develop the service. Excellent IT skills and a strong understanding of social media and experience of using it in recruitment. Contract: Permanent Salary: €37,271 - €54,915 (Specialist/Senior Administrator Band) Annual Leave: 24 Days per annum pro rata Hours: Hours of work will be generally 9.00am to 5.00 pm. A willingness to work flexibly to cover some events and activities outside of usual working hours is required. Hybrid work available subject to departments needs.
