We're a national law firm with a local reach. Our philosophy is 'we're legal and financial experts that care' - something you'll find in the way we work with our clients and how we support our teams. But we're more than just a law firm - we're a team of people working together to help individuals and businesses navigate life's ups and downs. Working here you'll feel a part of our friendly and inclusive environment.

We'll value you for who you are and what you bring. We support each other and push boundaries to achieve incredible things and make a real difference to our clients and communities.

We're always looking to support our colleagues to work in a way that works best for them and everyone else, including our clients, the business and the regulators.

Your Role and What You'll Be Doing

We are currently looking to recruit an Associate to join our highly ranked and award-winning National Family team to be based from our offices in Aske, North Yorkshire or Newcastle.

Last year Irwin Mitchell completed its acquisition of Silk Family Law, adding their tier 1 ranked team to our National Family team, in Newcastle and Aske. That acquisition has created further opportunities to add to our team from those locations.

You will be working within a highly specialised and experienced team of Family law professionals representing clients in a variety of matrimonial and family law cases including finance and children matters. The team has particular expertise in dealing with complex issues such as business assets, farming businesses, trusts and pensions and cases with an international dimension.

This is a superb opportunity to develop your knowledge and expertise working as part of a long-established regional team as well as an award-winning top tier National Family team in one of the UK's leading law firms.

About You

- A sound all-round knowledge of family law and procedure - used to dealing with and leading on both day-to-day and high value, complex cases with a high standard of drafting skills.
- Experience and confidence in meeting with clients and advising face to face and remotely.
- Experience of advocacy in the family court and/or in other public speaking environments.
- A natural team player with a professional and collegiate approach to working with clients and colleagues.
- Well-rounded client service skills with the ability to empathise with a wide range of clients in order to resolve the most sensitive and complicated practicalities involved in family break-ups.
- Demonstrable ambition, energy and enthusiasm for continuing to build a successful Family law team at the top of the market.
- Confident in developing relationships with other professionals and referrers as part of personal and firm-wide business development plans.

We believe the role would suit someone with around 3 - 6 PQE but are happy to consider applications from those outside of this bracket if you feel that you could add value to the role.

Our Benefits - What We Can Offer You

- 25 days holidays as standard plus bank holidays - You can 'buy' up to 35hrs of extra holiday too.
- Generous and flexible pension schemes.
- Volunteering days - Two days of volunteering every year for a cause of your choice (fully paid).
- Westfield Health membership, offering refunds on medical services alongside our Aviva Digital GP services.

We also offer a wide range of well-being initiatives to encourage positive mental health both in and out of the workplace and to make sure you're fully supported. This includes our Flexible by Choice programme which gives our colleagues more choice over a hybrid way of working subject to role, team and client requirements.

Irwin Mitchell LLP is an equal opportunity employer.
