Cork, Ireland Netgear Full time

Role Overview

Location: Cork - NETGEAR European headquarters

Work Model: Hybrid - 3 days onsite per week

Reporting to: Software Engineering Manager

Join NETGEAR’s new Centre of Excellence in Cork and help shape the future of connected experiences. As a Senior Software Engineer, you’ll design, build, and operate the cloud platform powering NETGEAR’s devices and subscription services. Your work will enable secure, scalable, and high-performance solutions for millions of users worldwide.

You’ll work with a modern cloud-native technology stack — including AWS, serverless computing, microservices, observability tooling, and AI-assisted development tools — while collaborating closely with our mobile app team, product, and embedded device teams to deliver integrated, cloud-connected experiences.

This hybrid role offers flexibility, with the expectation that you’ll spend at least three days per week in our Cork office, combining in-person collaboration with remote work.

This is a unique opportunity to influence the architecture, reliability, and scalability of NETGEAR’s next‑generation cloud platform as we transform into a software‑driven business.

Key Responsibilities:

Cloud Platform Engineering

- Design, implement, and maintain highly scalable and resilient cloud infrastructure and backend services using AWS.

- Build Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.

- Leverage serverless architectures (e.g., AWS Lambda) and microservices for modular, maintainable solutions.

Service Development & Integration

- Develop backend services in Node.js, TypeScript, Java, or Go (Go experience is an advantage).

- Design APIs and event‑driven integrations connecting cloud systems, IoT devices, and applications.

- Apply software engineering best practices, including automated testing, continuous integration, and deployment.

- Demonstrate strong ownership of code quality — writing, maintaining, and automating your own tests to ensure reliability and resilience.

Observability, Reliability & Performance

- Implement and maintain monitoring, logging, and tracing using tools such as Datadog, AppDynamics, or New Relic.

- Drive operational excellence by identifying and resolving system bottlenecks and improving fault tolerance.

- Ensure high availability, resilience, and performance of production systems.

Automation, DevOps & AI Tools

- Build automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar tools.

- Champion DevOps practices and continuous delivery within engineering teams.

- Utilize AI‑assisted coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude Code to accelerate development while maintaining code integrity.

- Understand and articulate both the benefits and potential pitfalls of AI coding tools, applying them responsibly to improve productivity without compromising quality or security.

Security & Compliance

- Apply AWS security best practices, including encryption and network security controls.

- Collaborate with security teams to ensure compliance with internal and external standards.

Leadership & Collaboration

- Provide mentorship and guidance to other engineers.

- Partner with mobile, web, and firmware teams to deliver cohesive, cloud-connected experiences.

- Take initiative and full ownership of projects from design through deployment and maintenance.

Required Qualifications:

- B.Sc. in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.

- 5+ years of experience in backend or cloud engineering roles, designing and operating large-scale cloud systems.

- Hands‑on experience with AWS services such as Lambda, API Gateway, DynamoDB, S3, RDS, ECS, and CloudWatch.

- Proficiency in one or more programming languages: Node.js, TypeScript, or Java.

- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as AWS CDK, Terraform, or CloudFormation.

- Deep understanding of distributed systems, event‑driven architecture, and microservices.

- Experience with observability platforms such as Datadog, AppDynamics, or New Relic.

- Proven experience using AI coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code) and understanding their role in accelerating delivery responsibly.

- Demonstrated ownership and accountability in delivering reliable, well‑tested solutions.

- Strong problem‑solving skills and ability to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience developing in Go.

- Experience with IoT and connected device ecosystems.

- Familiarity with container orchestration (Docker, ECS, EKS).

- Knowledge of AWS networking and security design.

- Experience in fast‑paced, agile, or start‑up environments.

- Passion for building scalable, user‑focused cloud solutions that power real‑world products.
