Direct Entry – Radio Radar Technician:

We are now accepting applications for positions as direct entry Radio Radar Technician. About the role of Radio Radar Technician:

· A Radio Radar Technician is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and operational support of critical communication, radar, and electronic navigation systems onboard Naval Service vessels and at shore-based facilities. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the effectiveness of naval operations through high-quality technical expertise.

· As a Radio Radar Technician (RRT) within the Irish Naval Service you will be trained to manage, maintain and crew the ship as well as keeping it operational.

· A Leading Radio Radar Technician (L/RRT) will be trained to perform the roles and responsibilities of a Petty Officer (PO) and technician at sea, where selected candidates will be responsible for the Installation, Operation, Maintenance and Repair of all Navigation and Communications equipment on board.

· You will assist in emergency response situations and exercises, including fire-fighting and damage control duties.

Essential Requirements:

At the time of application, all applicants for appointment as Radio Radar Technician in the Naval Service must meet the following:

1. General Requirements:

(i) be a citizen of the Irish State

OR

(ii) have a legal entitlement to reside and work in the State for the period of any such appointment.

AND

(iii) be of good character and satisfy any security clearance required during the recruitment process.

AND

(iv) meet the required minimum standards of medical and physical fitness as assessed during the recruitment process.

2. Age Requirements:

Applicants must be 18 Years of age and under 39 years of age on date of application.

3. Professional Qualifications:

A candidate for enlistment as a Radio Radar Technicians must have completed one of the following:

(i) B. Eng in Electronic Engineering HETAC Level 7.

(ii) B. Eng in Marine Electrotechnology HETAC Level 7.

(iii) B. Eng Ordinary Degree in Electronic Engineering - Military Communication Systems (Carlow).

(iv) National equivalent of any of the above (this will be subject to review and approval by the Naval Service.

Recruitment Process:

Please note, candidates will be invited to complete a fitness test and attend a competency-based interview where they will be required to draw from their relevant experience. Candidates who successfully pass the fitness test and competency-based interview will be required to complete a medical assessment and go through a Garda Vetting process.

Pay and Allowances:

A competitive basic salary of €49,543 with yearly increments. Naval Service personnel receive an additional approx. €20,570 per annum. Additional allowances for overseas service are not included. This allowance starts at €15,000 per annum in addition to your salary and is tax free.
