Consultant in Haematology (Clinical&Laboratory) HSE's referral hospital in southwest Ireland is seeking a hematology specialist (clinical and laboratory).
This position represents an excellent opportunity to work in one of the most prosperous countries in the EU, where significant investment is made in public healthcare, with stable, long-term contracts. The hospital needs to expand its service and is therefore looking to add another hematologist to the department.
The department is organized as follows:
4 weekly clinics in General Hematology
Fridays: Oncology consultations
There will also be laboratory management responsibilities.
Clinical duties of the hematologist:
Diagnosis and treatment of hematological diseases: Leukemias, lymphomas, multiple myeloma, Thrombocytopenia, coagulation disorders (hemophilia, thrombophilia), Myeloproliferative disorders, Patients with hematological malignancies, immunodeficiency, etc.
Supervision of chemotherapy and targeted therapies: Prescription and monitoring of toxicity, Coordination with oncology and transplantation (if applicable)
On-call shifts and inpatient care: Review of interdepartmental consultations on wards and in the emergency room, Management of acute complications, On-call OFFSITE
Teaching and research: Supervision of residents, Participation in clinical trials
Laboratory duties of the hematologist:
Supervision of the hematology laboratories: General hematology (complete blood count, blood smear, indices), Specialized hematology (flow cytometry, molecular genetics, immunophenotyping)
Validation and reporting of critical results: Confirmation of diagnoses before issuing important reports, Communication with clinicians regarding unexpected findings
Morphological diagnosis: Review of blood smears, bone marrow samples, and biopsies.
Quality management and laboratory accreditation: Implementation of ISO standards and internal audits.
Clinical consultation for other physicians: Interpretation of test results, Diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations.
Contract and benefits:
Initial 12-month contract with the possibility of renewal and subsequent permanent employment.
Approximate monthly net salary of €9,500–12,000.
31 working days of annual leave for hematologists, plus public holidays (10 per year).
Up to €12,000 for funding postgraduate studies (master's degree, etc.).
Up to €8,000 annually for innovation projects.
Includes an attractive pension plan.
Requirements:
Must be a hematology specialist in a European Union country. Registration with the Irish Medical Council Specialist Register is required.
Advanced level of English (C1) both written and spoken.
Strong motivation to work as a physician in Ireland as soon as possible.
Extensive knowledge of clinical and laboratory hematology.
