Overview
This role is centered around the maintenance and deployment of data center, server, and network hardware. You will be engaged in troubleshooting hardware issues and managing large-scale infrastructure builds under tight deadlines.
Responsibilities
- Daily Operations: Focus on addressing server, network hardware, and infrastructure issues as they arise, ensuring smooth data center operations.
- Infrastructure Builds: Participate in the deployment of large-scale infrastructure projects, often with tight timelines.
- Cable Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve connectivity problems related to copper or fiber cabling, ensuring fast and efficient repairs.
- Technical Communication: Deliver clear and professional technical information, particularly in configuring and troubleshooting complex systems.
- Customer Support: Utilize internal ticketing systems to efficiently manage and resolve technical issues, while providing excellent customer service.
- Hardware Repairs: Identify and troubleshoot server hardware issues, including component replacements for malfunctioning parts.
- Equipment Management: Handle the receiving, tracking, and deployment of server and network hardware.
- Spare Parts Control: Monitor and manage on-site spare parts inventory to ensure availability and organization.
- Installation & Racking: Perform racking, cabling, and installation of both server and network infrastructure; coordinate additional services as needed.
- Process Improvement: Follow established processes to enhance system stability and performance. Update documentation such as port maps, rack layouts, and asset records using DCIM and power management tools.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure compliance with all applicable policies and procedures within the data center environment.
- Solution Implementation: Deploy infrastructure solutions that support the company's growth while mitigating risks and maintaining scalability.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work collaboratively across different teams and departments to align infrastructure with broader business objectives.
- Maintenance & Repairs: Conduct routine maintenance and physical part replacements for servers and network infrastructure.
- Travel: Potential for travel to other data center locations to assist with additional projects as necessary.
Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in a high-availability, secure data center environment within IT/Technical Operations roles.
- 2+ years of hands-on experience troubleshooting and resolving data center, network, or server hardware issues.
- Practical experience in racking, physical maintenance, and management of data center hardware.
- Preferred Skills:
- Strong attention to detail, particularly in cable management and organization.
- Thorough understanding of copper and fiber cabling in a data center context.
- Experience with data center documentation and asset tracking tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence, Visio, DCIM).
- Knowledge of Juniper, Cisco, Dell, or HP hardware is a plus.
- Self-starter with the ability to complete tasks independently.
- Capable of performing physical tasks such as lifting hardware and working at heights.
