Financial Controller

(Remote opportunity but must be living in the Republic of Ireland, ideally Munster)

My client is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Financial Controller to oversee and manage the financial operations of the company. The ideal candidate will be responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, budget management, cost control, and regulatory compliance. This role requires a proactive individual who can work independently and communicate effectively with senior management to support strategic financial planning.

Scope of the role:

1. Financial Reporting & Analysis:

1. Prepare accurate and timely financial statements, including profit and loss, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

2. Conduct financial analysis to identify trends, variances, and areas for improvement.

3. Provide regular reports to senior management with insights and recommendations.

2. Budgeting & Forecasting:

1. Lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with managers to ensure alignment with company goals.

2. Prepare and maintain financial forecasts, revising them as necessary based on actual performance and changes in the business environment.

3. Monitor budget adherence and provide variance analysis.

3. Accounting & Compliance:

1. Complete all aspects of the accounting function, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.

2. Manage month-end and year-end close processes, including reconciliations and journal entries.

3. Coordinate with external auditors and prepare for annual audits.

4. Cash Flow Management:

1. Monitor and manage company cash flow, ensuring sufficient liquidity for operations and strategic initiatives.

2. Forecast cash requirements and develop strategies for optimizing cash flow.

3. Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.

5. Cost Control & Efficiency:

1. Implement and monitor cost control measures to improve profitability.

2. Review and optimize financial processes to enhance efficiency and accuracy.

3. Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational improvements.

6. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance:

1. Ensure timely and accurate filing of all tax returns, including VAT, income tax, and payroll taxes.

2. Stay updated on changes in tax laws and regulations and ensure compliance.

3. Manage any tax-related queries or audits.

7. Financial Strategy & Advisory:

1. Assist in the development of the company’s financial strategy, aligning financial goals with business objectives.

2. Provide financial insights and recommendations to support strategic decision-making.

3. Work closely with the CFO/CEO on special projects, such as mergers and acquisitions, financial modeling, and risk management.

Qualifications & Skills

1. Education & Certification:

1. Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field.

2. A professional accounting qualification (e.g., CPA, ACCA, CIMA) is a plus.

2. Experience:

1. Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 2 years in a financial controller or senior accounting role.

3. Technical Skills:

1. Proficiency in Sage accounting software and advanced Excel skills.

2. Strong knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting standards, and tax regulations.

4. Personal Attributes:

1. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

2. Excellent organisational and time management abilities.

3. High attention to detail and accuracy.

4. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

5. Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
