We are a progressive, member-focused credit union with total assets of c€185 million, committed to delivering exceptional financial services and community impact. As we continue to grow, we are seeking a strategic and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our senior leadership team. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CFO will lead and be directly responsible for the finance function of the credit union and will oversee the delivery of timely, accurate financial and management reporting. The CFO will play a key role in shaping and implementing the financial planning and performance framework that supports the credit unions strategic objectives. The role also involves maintaining high standards across financial reporting and control frameworks to ensure accuracy, clarity, and long-term resilience. The CFO will provide financial leadership to the CEO and actively support strategic decision-making through participation in relevant committees. Key Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Oversight Lead and be directly responsible for the finance function, ensuring accurate, timely, and robust financial reporting to support critical decision-making. Collaborate closely with the CEO and senior leadership team, providing financial insights and strategic analysis to guide planning and business development. Lead and deliver key financial and cross-functional projects in collaboration with the CEO, ensuring alignment with the credit unions strategic priorities. Take ownership of project planning, execution, and milestone tracking, while maintaining effective communication with stakeholders to support progress, foster alignment, and drive successful implementation. Provide leadership and support to the finance team, including performance management, training, and development planning. Participate in designated operational committees, contributing financial expertise and strategic input. Report to and present financial performance, forecasts, and strategic insights to the Board, ensuring clarity, accountability, and alignment with governance standards. Financial Planning & Performance Lead financial forecasting and scenario planning to support strategic decision-making and safeguard long-term financial resilience. Lead the budgeting process, including the preparation, monitoring, and oversight of monthly and annual budgets. Maintain responsibility for liquidity management, forecasting, and capital adequacy planning. Develop and report on key performance indicators (KPIs) across relevant financial and operational areas. Financial Operations & Reporting Manage the preparation and presentation of monthly management accounts and all internal financial reports, including branch-level reporting. Ensure full compliance with FRS 102 and all relevant financial reporting standards and statutory obligations. Ensure the timely and accurate filing of all regulatory, revenue, and external financial reporting obligations in accordance with statutory requirements. Liaise with external auditors to facilitate an efficient and well-prepared annual audit process. Prepare, maintain, and review procedures and policies relevant to the finance function, ensuring they remain compliant, relevant, and aligned with operational and regulatory requirements. Be responsible for payroll operations, ensuring compliance with all statutory requirements. Manage and optimise the credit unions investment portfolio in collaboration with investment advisors and the relevant committee, with a primary focus on safety, compliance, and financial risk awareness. Ensure robust financial reporting and internal control frameworks that uphold accuracy, reliability, compliance, and long-term financial resilience, with a strong focus on governance and operational integrity. Financial Risk Management Monitor and manage financial risks including interest rate, liquidity, and capital adequacy, ensuring appropriate controls and mitigation strategies are in place. Liaise effectively with Risk, Compliance, and Internal Audit functions to ensure integrated governance and alignment on financial risk matters. Candidate Requirements The successful candidate will: Be a qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, CPA) with a minimum of 5 years post-qualification experience in a senior financial management role, ideally within the credit union, financial services, or broader regulated sectors. Experience in auditing within the credit union sector or in a financial leadership role in a regulated entity will also be considered. Demonstrate deep expertise in financial planning and strategy, forecasting, budgeting, and the preparation and presentation of both monthly and statutory accounts. Strong knowledge of regulatory reporting requirements and financial systems is essential, along with advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Bring proven leadership experience, with a track record of managing, motivating, and developing high-performing teams. Have significant experience partnering with a CEO and senior leadership teams, contributing to the identification, development, and implementation of transformative strategies across operational areas. The candidate will be adept at supporting change and enabling the credit union to respond effectively to emerging opportunities, risks, and challenges. Possess strong commercial acumen and strategic thinking skills, with a demonstrated ability to identify opportunities, evaluate decisions, and prepare robust business cases. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential.
