Summary
The Staff Technical Program Manager will be responsible for transforming our APIs into a strategic advantage by building and enforcing standards, improving consistency, and aligning product and engineering teams toward a shared vision of developer delight. You/'ll drive the governance and infrastructure that allows our internal and external APIs to evolve without chaos—and without compromising on quality.
Responsibilities
Lead Deel’s API program across the company, establishing ownership, accountability, and operational structure.
Create and enforce scalable API standards and governance practices (naming, versioning, consistency).
Design and implement a comprehensive API evaluation system to track maturity and identify gaps.
Collaborate with product and engineering leaders to drive alignment on API priorities and cross-team dependencies.
Ensure APIs are consistent, performant, and reliable, with a seamless experience for both internal teams and external developers.
Work closely with Developer Experience engineers to ensure the right tools and processes are in place to support API builders.
Conduct customer research and internal discovery to surface integration pain points before they become problems.
Own API quality conversations across the org—spot issues early, bring the right people together, and drive resolution.
Be a strategic partner in defining how Deel’s platform evolves to support white-label, partner, and enterprise-grade use cases.
Qualifications
10+ years of experience in technology roles, including 5+ years in high-growth scale-ups. Proven ability to drive impact in fast-paced, rapidly evolving environments.
Deep expertise in modern API design (REST, GraphQL, OpenAPI), with a strong track record of leading or contributing to large-scale API initiatives—especially platform or white-label use cases.
Operational excellence in API governance, lifecycle management, and driving adoption through well-defined standards and frameworks.
Strong technical fluency with the ability to collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and cross-functional stakeholders; prior experience in integrations, solutions architecture, or developer-focused roles is a plus.
Data- and customer-driven decision-maker who adapts priorities based on insights, usage patterns, and developer feedback.
Passionate about simplifying complexity and building high-quality integration experiences that scale across partners and platforms.
Hands-on familiarity with API tools and infrastructure, such as Postman, Swagger/OpenAPI, API gateways, and auth protocols (OAuth2, etc.).
General technical knowledge of software development processes and systems (experience in designing and building payment systems is a significant advantage).
Proficiency with BI tools (SQL, Looker, Snowflake, Datadog, Excel/Sheets) and excellent presentation skills.
Bonus: Experience at companies known for strong developer ecosystems (e.g., Stripe, Postman, Shopify, Slack, Twilio, Airbnb, etc.).
