Board Member with Financial Expertise

The Organisation:
The Training and Development Project Steering Group was established in April 1999. The Steering Group applied to FAS, as it was then, for the provision of a special Community Employment Project to establish a training and development project for stabilised opiate users in Dublin’s North West Inner City. This became the North West Inner City Training & Development Project in March 2002 and the Community Employment Project started in July 2002.
Through training and development, participants progress through their rehabilitation and learn and develop new skills and improve their self-esteem and confidence. The NWICTDP is a special Community Employment Scheme to support active drug users to work towards an absence based recovery model.

The Role:
NWICTDP is seeking several board members to join the board including someone with financial expertise.
Role Requirements and Key Responsibilities Include:
Provide input to the strategic direction of the organisation and contribute with insight, oversight and experience of strategy formulation in the sector. Development of a new Strategic Plan is a priority for the board.
Advise and guide the board on financial matters and compliance.
Have deep insight into financial policies and controls and propose any recommendations for change.
Evaluate and monitor the adequacy of financial controls and procedures and ensure the organisation is compliant with best practice principles.
Prudent oversight of the organisation’s resources ensuring that the structures are in place to deliver the strategic objectives.
Skills and Experience Required:
The person will be a qualified accountant, or similar financial expertise.
Availability to attend board meetings as required.
Experience in the voluntary/not-for-profit sector in Ireland would be welcomed.
Previous board experience is desirable either as an executive or non-executive.
Alignment with the vision and values of the organisation and a commitment to social justice.
Charities Regulator’s General Duties of a Charity Board Member:
Comply with the charity’s governing document.
Ensure the charity is complying with its charitable purpose for the public benefit.
Act in the best interest of the charity.
Act with reasonable care and skill.
Manage the assets of your charity.
Board Meetings:
There will be up to six board meetings a year. Meetings run approximately 1 to 2 hours in duration and are held in-person at the Macro Resource Centre, Green Stret, Dublin 7 (online is an option). There will be an opportunity to review the board meetings schedule.
Subcommittees:
There are no board sub-committees currently, but this may be reviewed by the board.
