About the Head of Risk Governance role

The Head of Risk Governance (HoRG) sits in the firm's second line of defence, reporting directly to the Chief Risk Officer (CRO) and is a member of the Goodbody Risk Function's Senior Management Team (SMT). The HoRG is the second line of defence risk manager responsible for leading core components of the firm's Risk Management Lifecycle including Material Risk Assessment, Risk Appetite setting and Policy Governance. Risk Governance is an evolving pillar within the Risk Function and the successful candidate will be a key player in developing the profile and brand of the Function throughout the business and in delivering the function's overall Risk Strategy.

The HoRG manages an enterprise risk team and is a key support to the Chief Risk Officer in proactively promoting the Risk Function as a trusted advisor to, and robust Second Line of Defence for the firm. Working with the CRO, the HoRG has a mandate to promote and oversee a consistency of output from all pillars of the Risk Function in their oversight and advisory activities.

Head of Risk Governance Accountabilities include:

1. Leading the design and functioning of core components of the Risk Management Lifecycle for all parts of the Goodbody Group. This includes the Risk Management Framework (RMF) and Material Risk Assessment (MRA).
2. Assisting the CRO in the development of the annual Risk Function Plan and providing ongoing reporting on its execution to Executive and Board level Risk Committees.
3. Coordinating the formulation of the firm's Risk Appetite Statement and monitoring that the firm's risk profile and Strategic plans are consistent with it.
4. Managing the firm's policy governance framework and overseeing its continued implementation, ensuring a formal and consistent approach to governance of the firm's risk policies and frameworks.
5. Developing and enabling the firm's emerging risk processes.
6. Structuring and orchestrating Risk Function SMT meetings to provide for ongoing information sharing and collaboration.
7. Developing, maintaining and promoting of the Function's Risk Charter.
8. Leading Risk Function reviews of all key strategic decision and/or investment papers that are presented by the business to the firm's Board and Executive Committee and presenting the associated Risk opinions.
9. Liaising with the CRO and other members of the Risk Senior Management Team for the ongoing production of the CRO report.
10. Overseeing delivery, the risk function's reporting obligations through to all relevant governance fora, including but not limited to the Executive Risk & Compliance Committee and Board Risk & Compliance Committee.
11. Overseeing the management of an aligned model for risk assurance activities across the three lines of defence and delivering ongoing reporting to Board Audit Committee on the coverage provided.
12. Managing the planning and execution of Second Line of Defence Risk Assurance reviews.
13. Managing and overseeing the risk function's reporting obligations to its parent, AIB Group p.l.c.
14. Participating in AIB Governance fora as necessary to maintain appropriate alignment of approach to Second Line of Defence risk management structures and practices.
15. Overseeing the execution of Second Line of Defence Risk Function roles and responsibilities that are discharged by AIB Group p.l.c. and management of the associated SLA.
16. Growing and managing a team of risk professionals. Identifying competency requirements and ensuring ongoing development of a training plan as required.
17. Upholding and promoting the values and independence of the role.
18. Supporting the maintenance and further development of a strongly embedded risk management culture.

Qualifications and Experience

1. The ideal candidate should have significant experience in a 2nd line role at a Financial Institution.
2. Third level education is not essential but may prove useful when selecting the successful candidate.

4. Excellent communication and presentation skills are essential with an ability to clearly and concisely convey complex messages.
5. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.
6. The ability to form good working relationships across multi-disciplinary teams.
