SPMHS Pharmacy Department has a clinically focussed Pharmacist Team Our Dispensary is mainly Technician-led with Accuracy Checking Technicians Clinical Pharmacists are fully integrated into consultant-led Multidisciplinary Teams This post will be 35 hours per week. Monday-Friday 9-5pm. The role Senior Pharmacist 1.0WTE Full time, Specified Purpose (Maternity cover Contract) St Patricks Mental Health Services seeks a Senior Pharmacist to work as a member of the pharmacy team in St Patricks Mental Health Services to ensure safe and effective medicines management. The Senior Pharmacist will report to the Chief Pharmacist. The standard working week applying to the post is 35 hours per week. Responsibilities Assisting in the provision and further development of the clinical pharmacy service in St Patrick's University Hospital & St Patricks Lucan Supervising and supplying drugs, pharmaceuticals and other related items following hospital and PSI guidelines Advising medical and nursing staff on the safe, effective, and economical use of medicines Attendance at MDT meetings Providing service user medication education as part of routine clinical care and as formal presentations Undertaking clinical audit Policy and protocol development Committee attendance Maintaining the confidentiality of service users and staff members at all times Maintaining approved standards of quality at pharmacy and ward levels Referring to and complying with legal, transit, and security requirements, as well as those of drug stability, as part of the purchase, storage, and supply of pharmaceuticals Maintaining records of adherence to standards required in the purchasing, quality control, compounding and dispensing of pharmaceuticals in an area which is secure and accessible by authorised personnel only Ensuring that pharmaceutical waste is disposed of appropriately Fostering open lines of communication both within the department and with other departments in the hospital Undertaking continuous education to ensure knowledge of, and familiarity with, new developments/methods related to the clinical field This job description is not intended to be a comprehensive list of all duties. Person specification Qualifications and/or experience Candidates must: Be registered, or eligible for registration, with the Pharmaceutical Society of Ireland as a pharmacist Hold a degree or higher qualification in pharmacy Have a minimum of 3 years post registration experience as a hospital-based pharmacist Clinical experience in a mental health organisation (desirable) A Postgraduate Qualification in Clinical or Hospital Pharmacy (desirable) Experience using RiO EPMA (desirable) Professional knowledge Proven clinical knowledge in the field and willing to develop the same Competencies/Skills: Reliability Flexibility Ability to make sound clinical and professional decisions Ability to work as a member of a team or independently Self-motivated & able to use own initiative Excellent time management skills and the ability to prioritise and plan your own work Excellent communication skills Recognising responsibility and accountability Positively influence individuals and the organisation Working to develop and maintain relationships (pharmacy and inter-professional) Identify opportunities for change and development Terms and Conditions Tenure: 1.0WTE Full time, Specified Purpose contract, pensionable as below. Working Week: The standard hours applying to this position is 35 hours per week. Salary: The salary for the position is based on the Senior Pharmacist 2025 pay scale (€74,783 - €86,721) and is commensurate with experience. Annual Leave The annual leave associated with the position 25 days. Pension: All pensionable staff become members of the pension scheme after successful completion of probation. The scheme is a defined contribution scheme with a deduction from the salary of the employee of 4%. In respect of an internal appointment being made the individuals existing pension arrangements will continue. Probation: The appointee will be appointed in a probationary capacity for the first six months during which time the job holders performance will be subject to ongoing review. Any extension to or suspension of the period of probation will be in line with the European Union (Transparent and Predictable Working Conditions) 2022. Health: The appointee must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the position and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service. Character: The appointee must be of good character. Retirement Age: Normal retirement age for employees is 66 years which at present is also normal pension age.
