Details about the broader Clinical Educator programme at RCSI can be found here Objective: The principal objective of the post is to participate in the development, direction, teaching, facilitation and examinations of the undergraduate teaching programme. Benefits: Participate in clinical courses such as ACLS, IBU and PALS and be refunded up to €450 on successful completion; (Full list of approved courses available from HR) Refunds available up to €450 on passing approved examinations; Benefit from up to 14 days Educational Leave to support participation on approved courses, exams or professional development activities Clinical Lecturers and Tutors are eligible for the RCSI Staff Development Programme which provides funding for Masters Level programmes - MD / MCh / MSc. (subject to some terms and conditions further information available from HR) Contract: This appointment is available for a period of one year initially, renewable to a maximum of two further years subject to satisfactory performance. Salary: €55,000 per annum for Clinical Lecturer or €45,000 for Clinical Tutor. Level of appointment will depend on the successful candidates' previous experience. Principal Duties and Responsibilities: Contributing to the clinical teaching programme in the junior, intermediate and senior cycle of the four and five year teaching programmes Contributing to the assessment of students in the junior, intermediate and senior cycles of the four and five year programmes. This includes development, delivery and evaluation of these activities Participating in the clinical activities of the Cardiology Department including ward rounds, out-patient clinics and non-invasive cardiac diagnostic testing (performing transthoracic and tranoesophageal echocardiograms, treadmill exercise tests and tilt table tests, pacemaker and ICD interrogations) Reporting non-invasive cardiac investigations (Holter monitors, Treadmill exercise testing and Echocardiograms) Participating in invasive cath lab procedures at the Mater Cardiac catheterisation lab including angiography, coronary intervention, pacemaker and ICD implants and electrophysiologic procedures and ablations when schedule permits Participating in weekly cardiology teaching sessions Providing resources and communication with student groups via the RCSI virtual learning environment Delivering the curriculum at a number of sites Other responsibilities include: Conducting Research; Outcomes to be defined with relevant head of department Performing Clinical Work on-site in RCSI Teaching Hospitals; Detail and commitment to be defined with relevant head of department Ensuring that all Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland policies and procedures are adhered to Complying with statutory legislation and Department rules and requirements in furtherance of your own and general staff welfare and safety Representing the best interests of the Department/RCSI at all times Performing such other duties as may be required from time to time Candidate Specification: Essential The successful candidate should: Have an In depth understanding of the Cardiology Ethos Possess evidence of registration with the Irish Medical Council Possess a keen interest in lecturing and interacting with undergraduate students Possess excellent communication skills Desirable It would be advantageous if the successful candidate had: Previous experience in Cardiology Previous experience using E-learning/VLE systems Previous experience of teaching and assessing students in an academic environment Previous experience in research Completed at least 4 years of clinical experience post-internship MRCPI / MRCSI or equivalent Informal Enquiries: Dr. Jim O'Neill, Consultant Cardiologist, Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown () or Prof Seamus Sreenan, Undergraduate Dean, Connolly Hospital () Application Process Please submit your CV and covering letter online no later than 8th of April 2025 Interview Process Interviews will be held in April/may.
