The Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) will play a crucial role in providing individualised care based on patient-specific needs. This includes specialist gynaecology support, nursing knowledge, emotional support, and advice for women attending the Service. The CNS will also assist in improving standards of care and promote a seamless service within a multidisciplinary professional framework.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
  • Maintaining awareness of the primacy of the patient in relation to all Hospital activities
  • Providing clinical expertise, specialist advice, and support to women across the Nursing Services
  • Ensuring evidence-based nursing care is maintained
  • Complying with existing Hospital policies and procedures


Key Responsibilities include:

  • Clinical Role: Providing specialist nursing service for gynaecology patients who require support and treatment through the continuum of care
  • Patient Advocate Role: Communicating with patients, families, and friends, assessing needs, and providing relevant support information, education, and advice
  • Educational Role: Acting as a resource and support to nursing staff caring for patients attending the Womens Health Service
  • Audit & Research Role: Establishing and maintaining a register of patients with gynaecology care needs, participating in collaborative research projects, and contributing to nursing research
  • Consultative Role: Providing leadership in clinical practice, acting as a resource and role model for best practice, and developing person-centred care pathways


Qualifications and Requirements:

Each candidate must possess:
  • Registration in the General Division of the active Register held by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland or entitlement to be so registered
  • A minimum of 1 year post-registration full-time experience or an aggregate of 1 year full-time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made
  • A minimum of 1 year experience or aggregate of 1 year full-time experience in the specialist area of care to which they are applying
  • A third-level qualification at not less than Level 9 or higher award that is relevant to the specialist area of care
  • Clinical, managerial, and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrated evidence of continuing learning and professional development
