Key purpose of the job
The Staff Nurse will promote the delivery of safe person centred care, ensuring regulatory and contract compliance, whilst at all times promoting the values and brand of Trinity Support & Care Services. The post holder will establish and maintain relationships with individuals with adults and children with an Intellectual Disability/Autism that are based on respect and equality to support people to direct their own lives, in a manner consistent with the service’s vision and mission.
Main responsibilities
- Promote and practice nursing according to: the Professional Code of Conduct as laid down by the NMBI; Professional Clinical Guidelines; Local policies, protocols and guidelines; Current legislation as it applies to the role.
- Ensure that all work within the service is user focused and upholds the principles of respect, privacy, dignity, fulfilment, independence and choice.
- Promote and maintain nursing standards of person centred care, including the promotion of normalisation and quality of life issues.
- Participate in the development of protocols and guidelines, and the setting of professional nursing standards.
- Be competent in relation to all relevant clinical policies and procedures; deal with issues of concern or complaints sensitively and appropriately.
- Partner with relevant statutory agencies, families and others in planning and developing person centred programmes of care and support.
- Monitor and support service users towards independence and contribute to the review of each adult in partnership with the multi-disciplinary/agency teams.
- Be responsible for and monitor the overall healthcare, prevention of illness, and promotion of healthy lifestyles with service users.
- Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individualised service user person-centred care programmes within an agreed framework, grounded in best practice and recent evidence-based nursing research.
- Develop and maintain close links with service users and families/guardians ensuring a partnership approach.
- Work closely with the multidisciplinary team to achieve optimal input for the service user.
- Act as an advocate for service users and their families, providing information to empower them in decision making, goal setting and problem solving to optimise their contribution and participation in community-based activities.
- Coordinate and contribute to the selection, recruitment and induction of new staff and provide effective leadership through regular supervision and communication, management of workloads, and development needs.
- Contribute to a positive, cohesive and therapeutic environment; manage disciplinary, grievance, untoward incidents and complaints as required.
- Develop good working relationships and promote Trinity’s brand through positive representation in the local community.
- Ensure efficient administration and compliance with policy and regulatory requirements, including rota planning and medication storage/dispensation.
- Complete H&S monthly monitoring reports and work with contractors and health & safety experts to ensure activities comply with regulatory requirements.
Professional Knowledge & Experience
- Knowledge of the legal frameworks in Ireland pertaining to residential care (e.g., Health Act 2007, HIQA National Disability Standards).
- Knowledge of quality assurance practices and their application to day-to-day service provision.
- Experience of working with children and young people with Intellectual Disability/Autism/Associated Mental Health needs.
- Knowledge of Person Centred Care Planning and risk assessment.
- Knowledge of inspections and audits, and experience of dealing with them directly or indirectly.
Requirements of the Role
- Work as part of a MDT (multidisciplinary) team and provide clinical nursing support to the staff team.
- Identify training needs pertinent to the clinical area and health and social care area.
- Participate in the company performance management process.
- Adhere to and model the company values, behaviours and competencies at all times.
- Carry out duties in accordance with Trinity Support & Care Service’s standards, regulations, and policies.

Person Specification – Staff Nurse
Eligibility Criteria
Qualifications and/or experience
Be registered with An Bord Altranais and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland; a minimum of 3 years' post-registration experience in a health care setting.
Application form and verification of certificates; interview and/or practical assessment.
Post Specific Requirements
Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of supporting people with disabilities to realise their potential relevant to the role.
Skills Competencies and/or Knowledge
- Demonstrate professional knowledge to carry out the duties and responsibilities of the role; understanding of theory and practice in care delivery to the client group.
- Demonstrate knowledge of working with Adults and Children with Intellectual Disability/Autism; knowledge of applying legislation in disability services; risk assessment and implementation of general risk assessments.
- Experience in HIQA notifications; completing incident/accident reports/investigations as per State Claims Agency requirements.
- Experience in managing aggression and related training; awareness of safeguarding and HIQA standards relevant to the role.

- Demonstrate ability to manage deadlines and multi-task effectively; incident and accident reporting; ability to work on own initiative; flexibility and motivation.
- Effective planning and organising skills including resource management and value for money.

It is essential that applicants hold a full and current UK/ROI driving licence and have access to a car and business insurance for work purposes, or have access to a means of transport suitable to perform the post duties (note: applies to applicants who have a disability under the Disability Discrimination Act).
