The Commissioning & SCS Teams in the Networks Engineering department provide a highly specialised commissioning service for both domestic and international clients. This involves the verification that the HV Substation equipment and schemes have been fully validated so that a declaration of fitness certificate may be issued to the System Controller confirming that the equipment is fit for connection to the relevant HV system.
The Electrical Engineer who is appointed to this role will use their experience in the High voltage sector to operate as a commissioning engineer to deliver multi discipline projects in ESB HV Substations across Ireland. The Commissioning Engineer will interface with various teams across Networks Engineering to optimize the delivery of HV projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate as a full member of a commissioning team which will be regionally based in Ireland, but with flexibility to operate across other parts of the country where business needs require it.
- Lead complex commissioning projects in high voltage substations, ensuring equipment meets all technical requirements before going into service.
- Perform and assess all on site testing associated with HV Commissioning
- Provide technical support, training, and advice to existing and new members of the commissioning & Design teams to develop their competency, leading mentor projects in process.
- Contribute to the development of work instructions and departmental procedures which are used by the wider commissioning team.
- Lead fault investigations, carry out detailed analysis and provide recommendations for improvement.
Knowledge & Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years relevant industry experience with an in-depth knowledge of the electrical design, layout and standards associated with HV substations.
- Experienced in operational safety.
- Proven ability to work in a team to a high level of performance.
- A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB’s safety, time, quality, and cost objectives.
- A flexible approach to work as per commissioning requirements.
- As this is a site based role, a full EU Driving licence (or recognised equivalent) is required for any potential candidate.
- Active involvement in international engineering organisations such as CIGRÉ, IEEE and IET (e.g. participation in Working Groups)
- Fully approved to issue Declaration of Fitness certificate to system controller.
Location
Deployment will be in one of the HV Commissioning teams which are structured on a regional level nationwide. The successful candidate will operate within one of those teams.
ESB is committed to smart working – combining digital tools with a culture of trust and empowerment to enable flexible ways of working. The successful candidate may work flexibly within their jurisdiction with attendance at the workplace for in-person collaboration on at least one anchor day per week. All smart working arrangements are subject to manager approval and ongoing review, based on the operational requirements of the role, the team, and the individual.
