Scope of the Role:
As part of the Mercury Team, the Construction Manager owns the project execution for the fire protection systems. You will report to the Operations/Contracts Manager, and in conjunction with that person, you will set specific goals for your elements of the project that align with the overall project objectives. Your role is primarily to ensure that the project is built in accordance with the scope, schedule, and budget as set out in the overall project programme. While the package lead is the project manager for a given scope, your job is the "on-the-ground management" of the trades.
In this position, you are required to deliver the scope of work as described in the design documents/specification, within the allotted budget and ahead of schedule. You will also fulfill the role of coach/mentor to more junior personnel in your team.
- Ensure a safe working environment for all of the people under your management.
- Establish the detailed scope for this project.
- Be exceptionally diligent in managing project changes. Ensure that a verifiable and verified paper trail exists for all changes.
- You are the Mercury manager for all scope associated with the fire protection on this project.
- You must ensure that all work is planned and executed in strict alignment to the programme schedule; with the right people in the right place, at the right time.
- You will work with the design team to ensure that all materials, designs, and equipment are available ahead of the need.
- You will be the primary driver of the Weekly and daily work plans.
- You will ensure that all personnel understand what "change" looks like and that all changes are costed and approved before work commences.
- Work with the planning department to develop a schedule to meet the client's schedule needs and to deliver all milestones ahead of schedule.
- Understand in detail the scope to be delivered in your discipline and have a thorough understanding of the design.
- Work with Client, Main Contractor, and Design department to clarify design deliverables and ensure design schedules are met.
- The Fire Protection Team will build and monitor the schedule with you; it is you that owns the execution of the works to meet that schedule. You and/or your team will work with the planners to develop a "Last Planner" level of detail schedule.
- You must ensure that all team members under your control manage and control internal and external reporting of projects.
- Manage updating of progress reporting.
- Ensure > 0.99% right first time on all works.
- Ensure that every member of your team has the required training to enable them to deliver the project requirements.
- Ensure that all personnel are committed to the IFW philosophy on site.
Safety
- Role model all aspects of working in a safe manner and ensure that all of your leadership team do the same.
- Safety indicators will be reviewed weekly across all of your supervisors and foremen in line with the overall project goals. You are specifically required to ensure that the people under your leadership meet and beat all safety goals.
Project Controls Skills
- As a construction manager, you are responsible for the construction of your scope in its entirety. As such, you must demonstrate a full and thorough understanding of all elements of the project delivery.
- You must understand the scope under your control and put in place plans to deliver the same.
- Start-up and ramp; execution; ramp down.
- Scope change control.
- You must understand the schedule for your scope and ensure that you are monitoring the progress in line with the overall project indicators. You must ensure that the project is in control at all times.
- Quality and safety indicators must be reported in line with the overall programme indicators and must reflect the performance of individual foremen and supervisors. These indicators must be reviewed with all supervisors and foremen weekly. Your quality goals are the same as the overall project.
- At least 5 years' experience in the management of construction projects and multi-disciplinary construction teams.
- Demonstrated capability in construction delivery within specialised industrial sectors including, for example, Life Sciences, Pharma, Mission Critical & Data-Centres, etc.
- Demonstrable experience in promoting and ensuring exemplary standards of health and safety on construction projects.
- Proven ability to understand and contribute to the development of project implementation for construction projects.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills.
