Overview Staff Product Security Engineer at BD Nogales Norte
This role provides the scope to lead and enhance security for our next generation of products, while ensuring current products remain secure and adapting to the evolving threat landscape. Responsibilities include leading efforts to enhance security tools and processes, managing relationships, and guiding the team to deliver secure, high-quality applications for our clients. The role requires relationship building, influencing change, and creating synergies across the extended BD team, suppliers/partners, and the broader BD organization.

About the Role

Being a Staff Product Security Engineer, you will define and guide the security strategy for our product lineup. You will foster a culture that prioritises security, ensure compliance with cybersecurity and regulatory standards, oversee a team delivering high performance, promote cross-department collaboration, and integrate secure-by-design principles from product conception through post-market phases. Your leadership will reduce risk, strengthen product robustness, and align security efforts with BD’s corporate targets and customer expectations.

Main Responsibilities

Lead and cultivate a top-performing Product Security team supporting various products within the business unit.

Improve team efficiency to minimize security risk and strengthen product resilience, aligning with BD’s cybersecurity strategy and regulatory standards.

Foster accountability, ingenuity, and continual improvement to drive tangible outcomes.

Incorporate secure-by-design principles, threat modeling, and proactive vulnerability management to reduce risk.

Collaborate with R&D, Quality, Regulatory, and IT to embed security throughout the product lifecycle.

Translate cybersecurity strategy into practical plans aligned with BD’s enterprise security objectives, regulatory demands, and customer expectations.

Track and report security status using metrics to monitor progress and inform decision-making.

Instruct engineering teams on security requirements and practical solutions for new and existing products.

Deploy software security solutions and guide product development following industry norms for medical device security (encryption, disaster recovery, authentication, audit logging, hardening, patch management, vulnerability monitoring).

Conduct product security risk evaluations and hazard assessments; provide remediation guidance to software engineers in development, on-site and off-site.

Assist in Product Security Documentation, including standardised documentation, document management systems, and timely reviews/approvals.

Facilitate technical design appraisals and code examinations; provide actionable recommendations to project teams.

Support development teams in Incident and Vulnerability Management Plans and Product Security White Papers; contribute to teams handling product security incidents.

Collaborate with Penetration Testing, Systems, Hardware Engineering, Quality, and technical services; ensure compliance with BD development policies and software quality procedures.

About You

BS degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.

Minimum of 5 years of experience in IT-Security architecture, secure software development, systems & architecture concepts, and designs.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Attributes

Experience leading and managing a team.

Experience with various encryption algorithms and PKI solutions.

Understanding of security issues and solutions for embedded devices.

Experience with dynamic and static code analysis tools.

Proficient knowledge of networking and security elements and common threats.

Experience developing in a regulated environment with a quality management system.

Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong work ethic and commitment to achieving project goals.

Proficient with Microsoft Office tools.
