Overview

Post Title: Grade VII – Management Accountant

Post Status: Permanent

Department: Finance Department

Location: Beaumont Hospital, Dublin 9

Reports to: Financial Planning and Analysis Manager

Salary: Appointment will be made on Grade VII salary scale (€58,254 to €75,728 LSI) at a point in line with Government pay policy.

Hours of work: Full Time 35 hours per week

Position Summary

The post holder will be a senior member of the Finance Department team and will be responsible for the accuracy of month-end data entry and reports. They will complete full reconciliation of balance sheet accounting profiles (e.g., bank reconciliation) and conduct monthly actual reporting and analysis in a timely manner. The post holder will also serve as the finance liaison for various directorates and departments to review their spending and will be involved in capital projects and other ad hoc projects.

Responsibilities

1. Responsible and accountable for the accounting accuracy and full reconciliation of balance sheet accounting profiles (e.g., bank reconciliation).
2. Keep abreast of relevant regulations, legislation, taxation, and accounting standards.
3. Support the development of enhanced financial systems.
4. Assist the Financial Accountant, Financial Planning and Analysis Manager, Deputy Director of Finance, and Director of Finance in their duties and undertake special assignments as agreed.
5. Demonstrate excellent analytical and conceptual thinking to organize and interpret financial information and challenge business decisions against strategic plan objectives.
6. Engage and interact with different directorates and departments across the hospital and staff at multiple levels.
7. Develop service costing, business analytics, benchmarking, and resource allocation models.
8. Provide leadership and advice on all matters relating to Expenditure, Income, and Budget for Clinical Directorates and Business Managers.
9. Assist in the costing process and provide support in using the costing system.
10. Evaluate service business proposals and ECC Applications.
11. Business partner with various operations teams/directorates to drive business performance and decisions.
12. Identify and initiate process improvements.
13. Prepare accurate month-end journals with relevant supporting documentation.
14. Prepare monthly reports for internal and external submission.
15. Assist the directorates with the preparation of business cases.
16. Review and challenge the requirement for spending.
17. Build relationships with key stakeholders and be the finance point of contact for the directorates.
18. Manage the annual budget at a directorate level.
19. Provide analysis and assist in preparation for the Annual Budgeting Process with a strong focus on the Pay budget.
20. Identify and establish Value for Money initiatives.
21. Engage with and analyze Cost Containment Strategies for hospital expenditure.

Qualifications

Selection Criteria: Selection criteria outline the qualifications, skills, knowledge, and/or experience that the successful candidate would need to demonstrate for successful discharge of the responsibilities of the post. Mandatory:

1. Fully qualified accountants with a recognized accounting body. Evidence may be required.
2. Two years post-qualification experience at a minimum.

Desirable:

1. Previous experience working in a health care environment.
2. Expertise in reporting, analyzing, and manipulating data.
3. In-depth knowledge of costing and budgeting.
