Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS)
Positive Behaviour Support
(Clinical Nurse Manager 2 salary scale)
Permanent – Full Time
Horizons is seeking to recruit a highly motivated and enthusiastic Clinical Nurse Specialist – Positive Behaviour Support.
The CNS in positive behaviour support will deliver care in line with the five core concepts of the role set out in the framework for the establishment of clinical nurse specialist posts, 4th Edition, National Council for the Professional Development of Nursing and Midwifery (NCNM) 2008.
The CNS will provide a holistic person-centred approach to the overall care needs of the person with an intellectual disability who exhibits behaviours of concern. Improving the person's quality of life and safety is the overarching purpose of the role.
The CNS will create opportunities for people who present with behaviours of concern to experience and participate in new life experiences. The aim of the behavioural approach includes the following principles:
- To be effective in changing inappropriate patterns of behaviours
- To respect the individual's dignity and rights
- To expand the individual's opportunities
- To enhance the individual's quality of life
This enables the service user to meet personal outcomes and lead a more fulfilling life through choice, increased opportunity, and social integration into the community.
The CNS will provide care interventions in Adult services as necessary.
Requirements of the Post:
(ii) Be registered in the Intellectual Disabilities division of the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) Register for which the application is being made or be entitled to be so registered.
Or
In exceptional circumstances, which will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, be registered in another Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives.
And
(iii) Have a minimum of 5 years’ post-registration full-time experience or an aggregate of 5 years’ full-time experience in the division of the register in which the application is being made.
And
(iv) Have successfully completed a post-registration programme of study, as certified by the education provider which verifies that the applicant has achieved a Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI), National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) major academic Level 9 or higher award relevant to the specialist area of care (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above).
And
(v) Be required to demonstrate that they have continuing professional development (CPD) relevant to the specialist area. The successful candidate may be expected to engage with further studies if required, to support service delivery in accordance with their role.
**Note 1: For Nurses/Midwives who express an interest in CNS roles and who currently hold a level 8 educational qualification in the specialist area (equivalent to 60 ECTS or above), this qualification will be recognised up to September 2026.
Have the ability to practice safely and effectively fulfilling his/her professional responsibility within his/her scope of practice.
Annual Registration
(i) Practitioners must maintain live annual registration on the appropriate/relevant Division of the register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) for the role.
Health
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.
Character
Candidates for and any person holding the office must be of good character.
Be computer literate & proficient in using Microsoft Teams & Excel.
- Full Clean Driver's License and access to own vehicle is essential.
