Overview
Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist – Dean Clinic Cork (0.4 WTE Part time, Permanent Contract). St Patrick’s Mental Health Services seeks a part time Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist to provide high standards of care to service users with mental health difficulties at the Cork Dean Clinic. The Cork Psychology team is part of the Psychology Department in SPMHS, offering opportunities for CPD, supervision, and research development. Candidates should have a track record in mental health services with a strong background in psychological formulation and evidence-based interventions, including group interventions. There are opportunities to work with both adult and adolescent service users.
Responsibilities
- Be responsible to the Director of Psychology for service provision and compliance with professional standards, and to the relevant consultant regarding service user care.
- Ensure provision of the highest standards of practice and care in the Psychology Department Cork Dean Clinic.
- Work as a member of the Adult and/or Adolescent multidisciplinary teams at Dean Clinic Cork; attend meetings, liaise, and coordinate with other professional staff.
- Carry out appropriate assessments and provide feedback to teams and service users.
- Implement treatment strategies or contribute to care of service users and document progress.
- Develop the Dean Clinic Cork Adult/Adolescent psychological services in line with SPMHS vision and strategy.
- Link with services at SPMHS.
- Develop possibilities for group therapy and deliver individual therapy.
- Carry out psychological assessments with a view to referral to psychological inpatient or day care programmes at SPMHS.
- Supervise trainees as required.
- Participate in CPD and research and develop knowledge in areas of interest.
- Carry out other duties relevant to the role as required.
Person specification
Qualifications and/or experience
- Have a recognised university degree or diploma (QQI level 8 equivalent) with 1st or 2nd class honours in psychology; have a recognised professional post-graduate qualification in clinical or counselling psychology or an equivalent qualification validated by the Department of Health. Candidates must submit a copy of their Department of Health Validation with their application where relevant.
- Have experience working with adult or adolescent service users in a mental health service.
- Candidates should have a track record of working with adolescents or adults in a mental health service. A strong background in psychological formulation skills and delivering evidence-based interventions is essential. Evidence of leadership qualities and ability to work with others to develop and deliver client-centred interventions including group interventions is desirable.

Terms and conditions
- Tenure: 0.4 WTE Full-time, Permanent post, pensionable as below.
- Working Week: 14 hours per week.
- Salary: Based on Senior Clinical/Counselling Psychologist 2025 pay scale (€98,484 - €115,761) pro rata, commensurate with experience.
- Annual Leave: 27 days pro rata.
- Pension: Pension scheme for eligible staff; defined contribution with 4% employee deduction. Existing arrangements continue for internal appointments.
- Probation: Six-month probation with ongoing performance review; extensions or suspensions in line with applicable employment conditions.
- Health: Must be fully competent and capable of performing duties.
