U.S. Import Export Compliance (USIEC) is responsible for international trade compliance oversight for all functional areas and business units of Eli Lilly and Company in the United States, Puerto Rico, and OUS sites for activities covered by U.S. Import Export and Trade laws and regulations. The team ensures adequate awareness of U.S. trade compliance issues by providing timely updates of regulatory changes and appropriate tools to all functional areas subject to U.S. regulatory jurisdiction. USIEC also serves as the primary contact with the multiple government agencies with regulatory authority over U.S. trade.
Responsibility Statement
As a member of the USIEC team, this role is accountable for supporting daily import operations and ensuring compliance with relevant import regulations. Responsibilities include collaborating with business partners, providing guidance to stakeholders on transactions, and liaising with customs brokers and other business partners to address customs and other partnering agencies (e.g. FDA) regulatory requirements within U.S. import processes. This position will manage technical trade compliance tasks and coordinate with various departments—including supply chain, legal, finance, customer service, IT, R&D, manufacturing, procurement—as well as external customs brokers and service providers. A successful candidate will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of U.S. regulations governing international trade compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily import operations, including engaging internal stakeholders, external business partners, and customs brokers to support the regulatory aspects of U.S. import compliance. Perform technical activities supporting import customs and trade compliance including HTS classification, valuation, origin, import customs/compliance assessments, and support of customs filing processes.
- Manage broker relationship and responsibilities to support US customs import entries and Foreign Trade Zone (FTZ) processes.
- Manage ACE FDA import entry codes.
- Manage import compliance and customs using SAP S4, SAP GTS, and non‑SAP processes.
- Support duty savings initiatives.
- Conduct customs post‑entry checks, entry file reconciliation, and assist in transaction testing and interviews during formal audits and assessments.
- Develop and revise procedures, job aids, and training materials.
- Execute continuous improvement initiatives to enhance USIEC’s import program. Identify areas of opportunity and implement improvements to processes, procedures, systems, and governance prioritizing items identified as higher risk or in need of improvement.
- Implement automation and other process efficiencies to streamline and reduce the inherent risk of manual import customs and compliance operations.
Basic Qualifications
Requirements:
- BS/BA Degree
- 5 years of international trade compliance experience

- Experience managing pharmaceutical or other life sciences import customs processes. Understanding of FDA and/or PGA requirements as related to U.S. import processes.
- Experience using SAP S4 and SAP GTS.
