EC2 is looking for an experienced Kernel & Hypervisor Engineer for one of our virtualization organizations. As part of the team, you will have the chance to significantly impact our systems, our business, and most importantly our customers, working in a diverse work environment with a flexible schedule. You will be building the lowest layer of the Amazon Web Services software stack, engineering new EC2 instance families and developing the EC2 Nitro Hypervisor for AWS. You will have the opportunity to innovate, make new engineering proposals, and explore new areas.
EC2 Accelerated Nitro is an organization that powers the EC2 Nitro instance families, focusing on hypervisors, virtualization, and accelerated computing. We build highly operable quiescent hypervisors that provide near bare metal performance to EC2 instances. We also integrate hardware accelerators (GPUs, FPGAs, etc.) into the EC2 instance families to support advanced workloads, such as machine learning, high-performance computing, inference, or graphics processing.
Key job responsibilities:
1. Take end-to-end ownership of the software development life cycle: You will build new solutions across the virtualization software stack; developing virtualization components and automating infrastructure flows. This includes design, testing, and deployment.
2. Drive operational excellence, improving the quality of the hypervisor and our instance platforms.
3. Influence and contribute to the technological roadmap of your team.
4. Work with other EC2 teams like hardware, software, and firmware groups across the globe, driving innovative solutions.
5. This position involves on-call responsibility. We work as a team to root-cause the issues and ensure our systems are resilient and fault-tolerant.

1. Work with your manager and other engineers in delivering to the roadmap.
2. Focus on high-quality delivery and operational excellence.
3. Solve technical challenges impacting our customers.

EC2 Accelerated Nitro has a two-fold mission: Leave no customer workload on-premises by engineering new EC2 instance families with hardware acceleration devices and build the most feature-rich virtualization technology in the cloud.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
1. 3+ years of computer science fundamentals (object-oriented design, data structures, algorithm design, problem solving, and complexity analysis) experience.
2. 2+ years of non-internship design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and existing systems experience.
3. Experience of writing clean, optimized, and scalable code using C or Rust.
4. 3+ years of experience using the typical Linux command line toolbox.
5. Understanding of operating systems internals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
1. 2+ years of embedded firmware development experience.
2. Experience working on the kernel or virtualization space.
3. Proficient in at least one CPU architecture such as x86 or ARM.
