The DMSO (Distribution Markets and System Operation) Operations Systems Support (OSS) team is seeking to fill the role of SCADA Specialist. The role of the OSS team is to support and maintain ESB Networks critical Operational Technology (OT) systems which include SCADA, Network Management System (NMS) and Geographic Information System (GIS).

NMS is the real time operations system including the Outage Management System (OMS) and the Distribution Management System (DMS). The DMS includes applications such as Power Flow, Network Optimisation, Load Forecasting, Fault Location, Isolation and Service Restoration (FLISR) and Distribution Energy Resource Management Systems (DERMS).

The NMS Engineer will be responsible for supporting and maintaining the NMS system and supporting the delivery of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO. This will include the development of the NMS to support the constantly evolving needs of the Operations function and the wider ESB Networks business. They will provide support to NMS business users, develop work processes and procedures, and support the rollout and testing of application upgrades and system patches.

Key Responsibilities

1. Support and maintain 24x7 operation of the NMS, including system monitoring, troubleshooting and resolution of system issues for the ESB Networks and the National Distribution Control Centre.
2. Provide support to ensure the smooth roll out and reliable operation of the NMS.
3. Support NMS business users and manage communications to these users.
4. Support the delivery and testing of new projects required to meet the strategic objectives of the DMSO and Operations and other cross-functional teams.
5. Maintain and keep the network model up to date with daily quality audits and issue resolution.
6. Support system maintenance activities including product upgrades, security patch upgrades and site switch activities.
7. Maintain existing reporting and dashboards and develop new reports and dashboards required by business users.
8. Support the business during critical service interruptions and major weather events.
9. Support other parts of the business and work closely with stakeholders to understand their requirements and system issues.
10. Work with the NMS Vendor to keep the system up-to-date and ensure quality end-to-end service to our customers, including addressing any critical incidents and defect resolution.
11. Develop and maintain NMS training documents and job aids.
12. Develop and maintain work procedures and processes for the day to day operation, support and maintenance of the NMS.
13. Contribute to ESB Networks strategy in the deployment of technologies for enhancing quality of service to customers.
14. Contribute to the development of the NMS and DMS applications.
15. Provide support to the OT Cybersecurity Manager.

Essential Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
2. Either 3rd Level qualification or equivalent work experience.
3. Proven ability to deliver on the "key responsibilities" outlined above.
4. A strong work ethic with a clear focus on delivery to ESB Networks safety, time, quality and cost objectives.
5. The demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
6. Self-starter with ability to manage own work and support others within the project team.
7. The ability to technically mentor junior team members.
8. A flexible approach to work, especially where necessary to deliver excellent customer service.
9. Strong interpersonal skills.
10. Excellent communication and report writing skills.

Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Experience

1. Knowledge and experience working in different components of NMS systems including OMS, DMS, network operations and model management.
2. Knowledge and experience in electrical HV and MV networks.
3. Knowledge of ESB Networks Electrical Safety Rules and Network Operations policies and procedures.
4. Knowledge on reporting and data warehousing.
5. Familiarity with Unix, Linux or similar Operating Systems.
