About The Job
Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) combines software and systems engineering to build and run large-scale, massively distributed, fault‑tolerant systems. SRE ensures that Google Cloud’s services—both our internally critical and externally visible systems—have reliability, uptime appropriate to customer needs, and a fast rate of improvement. Additionally, SRE keeps a watchful eye on system capacity and performance.
Much of our software development focuses on optimizing existing systems, building infrastructure, and eliminating work through automation. On the SRE team, you’ll manage complex challenges of scale unique to Google Cloud, using your expertise in coding, algorithms, complexity analysis, and large‑scale system design. SRE’s culture of intellectual curiosity, problem solving, and openness is key to its success. We encourage collaboration, bold thinking, and a blame‑free environment while providing mentorship to learn and grow.
Gemini SRE is responsible for machine learning services and for the cutting‑edge LLM system Gemini. You will ensure services that provide the best search quality and relevance for real‑world users are reliable, fast, and manageable. We partner closely with development teams to roll out the latest ML/LLM technologies and implement platforms that power Gemini App and major product areas across Google.
Minimum qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
5 years of experience with software development in one or more programming languages.
3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting large‑scale distributed systems.
2 years of experience leading projects and providing technical leadership.
Preferred qualifications
Master’s degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
3 years of experience designing, analyzing, and troubleshooting distributed systems.
3 years of experience leading projects.
Experience with Large Language Models, Generative AI, Generative AI Agents, and Multimodal Machine Learning.
Responsibilities
Prioritize understanding and meeting the needs of real users, especially emerging users, by focusing on delivering what they need.
Improve the efficiency of services by optimizing resource allocation and achieving more with fewer resources.
Break down large, complex systems into manageable, sensibly sized components, determining when and how to do this.
