About The Role:
Notion is looking for an experienced and practical employment attorney to join its Legal team. As Employment Counsel, you will partner closely with the People Team to provide day-to-day legal advice, support people programs, and drive our strategic approach to legal compliance for a global employee population. You will be the primary driver of the Employment Legal team's work in EMEA, as well as manage global initiatives.
What You'll Achieve:
- Partner with Notion’s global People team - with a heightened focus on EMEA - to provide day-to-day and strategic advice on a range of employment issues including recruiting and hiring, worker classification, compensation and benefits, people policies and programs, employee relations, data privacy, and HR best practices.
- Advise during and guide outcomes for employee relations matters, including investigations, leaves and accommodations, performance management, and terminations; manage employment-related disputes and litigation; support non-employment related disputes and litigation.
- Draft, revise, and update global employment and benefits documentation and agreements.
- Identify and operationalize compliance-based requirements and build scalable policies, playbooks, templates, and tools in collaboration with partner teams.
- Highlight and drive practical solutions to existing and evolving employment law requirements and potential legal risks to the business.
- Collaborate with other cross functional teams including legal, stock administration, payroll, accounting, procurement, revenue operations, security, and communications.
Skills You’ll Need to Bring:
- Irish qualified solicitor, with 8+ years of combined experience practicing employment law at a law firm and in-house.
- Significant experience counseling on the full spectrum employment law issues, including recruiting and hiring, worker classification, compensation and benefits, people policies and programs, employee relations, and HR best practices.
- Deep subject matter expertise in Irish employment law and experience advising on employment matters across Europe, with a sense of practical application of the law.
- Data privacy expertise and experience advising on employment-related data privacy matters.
- Ability to draft and review approachable and scalable global employment documentation, including agreements, policies, and handbooks.
- Demonstrated interest in artificial intelligence solutions in a work setting.
- Excellent drafting, written and verbal communication skills and ability to provide pragmatic, creative, and fast-paced guidance in ambiguous scenarios.
- Resilience, resourcefulness, and the ability to develop trusted relationships and work highly cross-functionally.
Nice to Haves:
- Prior experience with fast growing technology companies, either as outside counsel or in house.
- Experience with international expansion.
- Experience supporting employment and benefits M&A workstreams.
- Enjoy working across multiple time zones and cultures.
- Familiarity with Notion.
We hire talented and passionate people from a variety of backgrounds because we want our global employee base to represent the wide diversity of our customers. If you’re excited about a role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every bullet point listed in the job description, we still encourage you to apply. If you’re a builder at heart, share our company values, and enthusiastic about making software toolmaking ubiquitous, we want to hear from you.
