Staff Nurse - Acute Virtual Ward (AVW) Permanent Contract, Full time Hours Details of the AVW Service: AVWs have emerged as a viable clinical intervention, enabled by technology, that is a safe and efficient alternative to bedded care. AVWs support patients who would otherwise be in hospital to receive the acute care, monitoring, and treatment (equivalent to that received in an acute hospital) they need in their own home. This supports early transfer out of hospital and augments acute bed capacity. The AVW provides patients who would otherwise be in a hospital bed to be remotely monitored and receive treatment in their own home. This care will be under the governance of and coordinated from the acute service with input from a Consultant / Integrated Care Consultant, ANPs, CNSs and the nursing team staffing the AVW. The service will be fully aligned or integrated with other service development programmes and services in the community. The Staff Nurse (AVW) will be professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing or designated officer and will report to the Clinical Nurse Manager 2 or designated officer. Responsibilities: Practice Nursing according to the Code of Professional Conduct as laid down by Bord Altranais agus Cnimhseachais na hireann (NMBI/Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland) and Professional Clinical Guidelines. Adhere to national, regional and Mercy University Hospital guidelines, policies, protocols and legislation. Work within their scope of practice and take measures to develop and maintain the competence necessary for professional practice. Deliver the nursing care of an assigned group of patients within a best practice / evidence-based framework. Manage a designated caseload. Promote the health, welfare and social wellbeing of patients within our services. Take responsibility for own competency and learning and development needs and actively contribute to the learning and development of the interdisciplinary team. Complete all mandatory training as deemed necessary by the Director of Nursing and NMBI. Participate in clinical governance structures within the local / regional / national clinical governance framework. Contribute to ongoing monitoring, audit and evaluation of the service, as appropriate. Accurately record and report all complaints to appropriate personnel according to local service policy. Support, promote and actively participate in sustainable energy, water and waste initiatives to create a more sustainable, low carbon and efficient health service. Ensure that records are safeguarded and managed as per HSE / local policy and in accordance with relevant legislation. Work closely with colleagues across the integrated services programme in order to provide a seamless service delivery to the client within the integrated services programme. Maintain records and submit activity data / furnish appropriate reports to the Director of Nursing, as required Eligibility Criteria: Be registered in the General Division of the Register of Nurses kept by NMBI or be entitled to be so registered. Have the clinical and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role. Successful candidates for this role will be expected to demonstrate proficiency and capability in using technology in clinical practice and/or clinical information systems.
