Position Description
Applications are invited for the position of Customer Delivery Network Designer (Engineering Officer).
The Network Designer, known as an Engineering Officer, is responsible for providing safe network designs within your discipline. These designs will be used by ESB Networks staff and/or contractors to carry out construction work safely on the Electricity Network.
The designs shall be carried out in line with relevant standards set down by ESB Network Assets and adhering to Company Standards. Depending upon the specific role assignment the design work may be related to domestic, commercial, and industrial new or increased customer connections. In addition, the design work may be associated with Capital Work Programmes on new or existing overhead or underground assets of voltages varying from LV to 38kV.
All design work is required to be completed in a timely manner and in line with the ESB design standards & guidelines and ensuring that ESB Networks Customer Charter standards are adhered to. The successful candidate will be required to manage their own design workload. The successful candidate will also have the ability to work on his / her own initiative but also as part of a larger design team and will be required to follow schedules set down by their design manager.
Key Responsibilities
1. Preparing high quality designs; calculating electrical loads, developing costs, producing design drawings, measuring design clearances on electricity networks from LV to 38kV.
2. Preparing Scopes of work, costing templates and safety documentation
3. Recording and updating the Distribution Network on the relevant IT systems
4. Maintaining commercial focus by preparing least cost technically acceptable designs
5. Liaising and negotiating with Local Authorities, landowners and other parties to obtain routes for underground cables and overhead lines in accordance with legislation and ESB policies
6. Compliance with legislation and ESB Policy in relation to obtaining consent from landowners including issuing wayleaves
7. Arranging cable easements and forestry easements and arranging road opening and closure licences where required. Applying for and processing Road Opening Licences
8. Following ESB's Code of Ethics "Our Code"
9. Processing Site Acquisition and Planning Permission applications as required
10. Delivering an excellent customer service in line with ESB Networks Customer Charter
11. Compliance with Health & Safety Legislation and Environmental Legislation
12. Fulfil the role of Designer under the Construction Regulations
13. Gaining and maintaining an excellent knowledge of HV / MV / LV Electrical Networks depending on specific area of work and expertise
14. Providing support in the planning and execution of construction and maintenance work programmes as required
15. Use of all required IT systems such as SAP IWM, Geographic Information Systems (GIS), Computer Aided Design (CAD), SAP FMIS, Excel, SharePoint etc
16. Ability to translate scope and policy requirements into constructable designs
17. Ability to implement standards and policies to ensure optimum design
18. Knowledge of ESB network assets; Substations, Lines, Cables, Protection and Metering
19. Minimum of 3 years relevant experience
20. Knowledge of ESB IT systems
21. Understands and applies the relevant approved Quality Management standards in ESB Networks

These positions will be based in Kerry/ Limerick/ Clare

The successful candidate will report to the relevant Design Manager, Delivery Assurance, Network Customer & Project Delivery.
