Chief Medical Scientist - Microbiology Full Time - Permanent Contract For more than 100 years, Bon Secours Hospital has been meeting community needs and achieving break through medical advances in care. The laboratory is fully accredited by the Irish National accreditation Board, Reg no 153MT and the Hospital is JCI accredited. The Microbiology Laboratory examines a diverse range of specimens for bacterial, fungal, viral and parasitic infections and consists of the main bacteriology laboratory, a Serology laboratory, full molecular suite and CL3 laboratory processing Enteric and Mycobacterium work. Serving a Medical Assessment Unit, acute and elective admissions, a busy oncology unit and a comprehensive surgical programme, in excess of 60,000 requests for Microbiology tests are received annually. With 17 full and part time staff and lead by 3 Consultant Microbiologists the department is currently in an exciting period of development as we continue to advance technology and are part of a hospital wide project to introduce an Electronic Patient record "Bons Connect". The ideal candidates must: Have the required qualifications for a Medical Scientist post as stipulated by the Department of Health A postgraduate degree in the field of Medical Laboratory Science Applicants must be a registered Medical Scientist with CORU. 6 Years in a Medical Laboratory post qualification, two of which must have been as a Senior Medical Scientist in Microbiology. Have excellent planning & organisational skills. Have excellent leadership, interpersonal and people management skills. Have excellent IT skills Be flexible and capable of working independently and as part of a team Be innovative, enthusiastic and self motivated Have experience in supervisory management and training and a qualification in same is also desirable.
