Position

Ayesa is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer with a strong background in structural or geotechnical design, with 3-6 years of relevant industry experience. As a Senior Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering discrete structural design packages and providing guidance, coordination, and mentorship to a team of engineers.

The Marine & Coastal team in Ireland works on various public and private projects for contractors, county councils, developers, port owners, and operators. We have consulted and designed ports with diverse needs, including Dubai Port, Aqaba New Port, Dublin Port masterplan, Greenore and Lowestoft Port FEED in the UK, delivering next-generation port infrastructure.

These complex engineering projects require expertise in regulation and permitting, maritime and port operations, structural and geotechnical engineering, site investigations, marine ecology, dredging and reclamation, project management, contract administration, and site supervision. We offer our clients a range of our in-house expertise in various specialist areas, including modelling, flooding, ecology, marine biology, geotechnics, geomorphology, hydraulics, navigation, dredging & reclamation, and aquaculture. As a multi-disciplinary consultancy, we combine marine engineering with broader transport and infrastructure specialisms to deliver a holistic design and delivery service.

Key Responsibilities

1. Works independently, calling on experts as required, to deliver designs for our clients.
2. Develops and supports junior engineers.
3. Ensures all marine designs are in accordance with set standards and all recommendations are robust, value-based, and commissionable.
4. Ensures that designs are delivered on time to our clients and that the design fulfills the client’s brief.
5. Inspects structures and construction work and ensures that all aspects of design are correctly implemented.
6. Monitors processes and results and ensures that they comply with relevant safety, legal, ethical, and regulatory requirements.
7. Ability to make appropriate judgements and decisions and exercise initiative.
8. Ability to prepare tender documentation.
9. Management of all work in compliance with Ayesa’s Integrated Management System (IMS).

Requirements

Key Experience Criteria

1. Has experience in the design and inspection of marine structures.
2. Has an understanding of port and harbour operations.
3. Has an understanding of marine environmental issues and constraints.
4. Has a willingness and ability to contribute to business development and the growth of the business.
5. Experienced & confident with report writing and presentation skills.

Key Skills and Knowledge

1. 3-6 years of industry experience.
2. Master’s in civil engineering or similar with experience in the field of marine civil engineering.
3. Chartered or near chartered with the ICE or equivalent.
4. Has proven technical knowledge of specific subject areas pertaining to marine works and proven ability to use relevant software.
5. Has proven knowledge of marine statutory permitting.
6. Can communicate effectively with clients, colleagues, and outside agencies and build effective working relationships and willingness to exceed client expectations.
7. Adheres to all Codes of Practice, Design Standards, and Health and Safety Regulations.
8. Represent and promote Ayesa in a professional manner and develop effective working relationships with clients and potential clients.
9. Is committed to Continued Professional Development and that of others.
10. Sound working knowledge of BS 6349, Eurocodes, and related marine guidance.
