Senior Technical Underwriter

Description AXA Ireland is seeking an experienced Senior Technical Underwriter dealing with our Commercial Property and Casualty business. Reporting to the Commercial Technical Underwriting Manager, you will support the implementation of underwriting standards in AXA Ireland as an expert in the relevant classes of business in line with stated risk appetite. You'll work majority of your working week away from home. Away from home means either attendance at one of our office locations, visiting clients or attending industry events. What you'll be doing: Documenting of risk appetite for each class of business and continuous review of same Produce reports with clear findings and recommendations on products, underwriting footprint and market opportunities as requested Identifying new product and/or process opportunities to improve products and strengthen Underwriting rules to reduce claims and/or improve overall customer experience Responsibility for smaller non material classes of business/product/Scheme offerings Reviewing and developing our Product wordings to adapt to changes in the trading environment and AXA Group requirements Engaging with our Reinsurance colleagues and providers to maintain the required level of coverage Engaging with our colleagues in AXA Group and other AXA entities to share expertise and leverage the capabilities of the organisation as a whole Use portfolio analysis to identify areas of concern and development of action plans Develop and deliver Underwriting training programmes to sales and Underwriting staff on product features and acceptance rules, rating and risk appetite Work with Trading Underwriting and Claims teams to ensure effective implementation of Underwriting standards Act as business lead or underwriting subject matter representative on cross functional projects Act as a point of referral for complex technical queries from staff in sales, claims, AXA Legal Services, broker partners, digital, marketing and other underwriting staff Qualifications What we're looking for: A minimum of 6 years' experience in a risk acceptance and rating environment, with a sound knowledge of market trends is essential. CIP Qualified essential, with MDI or ACII desirable Proven experience in decision making on a wide range of technical underwriting scenarios . A proven ability to develop excellent relationships, maintaining consistently strong focus on professional standards and results, and a track record of delivery in technical underwriting. Strong negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills Pragmatic decision maker with good analytical and numerical reasoning Sound understanding of insurance market and specifically our suite of Commercial products. Experience of working in teams and successful record of delivery Excellent relationship management skills and experience of building successful long-term relationships both internal & external. Strong customer advocate with clear understanding of the impact of Underwriting standards on customer journeys and customer facing staff This role is an allocated Controlled Function under Fitness & Probity Regime, which means the successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced level of background screening requirements.
