Job Title :Orthopaedic Fellow Beacon Hospital Department : Orthopaedic Department/UCD Beacon Hospital Academy. Reports to: Clinically and professionally responsible to the attending Orthopaedic Consultant. Administratively accountable to the Head of Medical Staff Office for e.g. roster, pay, leave requests. Date: 2025 Overall Purpose of Job The mission of Beacon Hospital is to provide quality care to all patients, in a respectful, safe and compassionate environment. In exercising this mission, Beacon Hospital will adhere to all health and safety regulations. This is an Orthopaedic Fellowship with both a clinical (80%) and research component (20%). The fellows research will build on the work and databases of Assoc. Professor O Donnell and Assoc. Professor Queally. The fellow is given graduated responsibility so that at the end of the year long program, the fellow is competent to commence work as an independent specialist. Key duties: To act under the supervision of the Orthopaedic Consultant and to support the Orthopaedic Consultants in their duties. To cover Operating Room duties as assigned. When available to attend daily ward rounds with the Orthopaedic SHO. Document review findings in clinical notes in a timely and legible manner. To liaise and support the orthopaedic SHOs with regards to admissions, reviews and discharge of patients. To assist in the education of medical students, colleagues and staff. The fellow will have access to the UCD Beacon Hospital Academy, UCD Library Services and UCD Research Support. To act and behave professionally and perform ones duties in a manner that optimises patient care and protects and enhances the reputation of Beacon Hospital.To adhere to Hospital Policies and Procedures e.g. JCI, Code Blue, infection control, work hours and overtime. To comply with Health and Safety Regulations, ensuring safe working practices in a safe working environment. To undertake any other duties that may be required, which could include assisting medical colleagues throughout the hospital and acting as a resource for more junior colleagues. Proposed weekly schedule: Monday:Theatre and Ward Duties: Assoc. Professor O Donnell Tuesday:Theatre: Assoc. Professor Queally Wednesday:Theatre and Ward Duties: Assoc. Professor O Donnell Thursday:Theatre (alternate weeks) and Ward Duties: Assoc Professor Queally Friday:Research Person Specification Qualifications Current Full Irish Medical Council Registration. Membership of the RCSI is desirable. Experience At least one years experience at Registrar level in an acute hospital setting. Job Specific Competencies and Knowledge BLS certification desirable. Personal Competencies Proven ability to work as an effective team member. Ability to communicate effectively. All posts in Beacon Hospital require a high level of flexibility to ensure the delivery of an effective and efficient service.Therefore, the post holder will be required to demonstrate flexibility as and when required by their manager or hospital management.
