Lead Senior Legal Counsel

PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES

SAP is looking for a lawyer with 10+ years post qualification commercial legal experience to lead the legal requirements of SAP Ireland Limited working closely with the Ireland Leadership team and the respective legal teams across the different regions.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:

The successful candidate will:

- be part of Tech Adoption, Managed Service Partner (MSP) and SAP Store Leadership teams and the EMEA Legal Management team and co-ordinate the legal activities of SAP Ireland with the Global legal teams and teams on other regions
- provide legal advice to all aspects of the SAP business that is operating through SAP Ireland with the emphasis on advising the Executive Management team, including the MD and CFO;
- work closely with sales and partner management to coordinate support for key deals, understand requirements and priorities and how to optimise legal support for these, provide training on legal topics to sales teams and manage escalations;
- coach, support, and develop the legal team involved in SAP Ireland transactions
- take responsibility for ensuring compliance with local legal and regulatory requirements, including in relation to data privacy, security, competition and consumer law, and corporation/ company law
- work closely with the SAP Office of Ethics and Compliance in relation to ensuring the SAP Code of Conduct is complied with, on internal audit investigations and as part of the market unit compliance function
- support and manage MU integration of SAP acquired entities into the business including from a legal, corporate, and process perspective
- take responsibility for ensuring that company business strategies are applied in full recognition of all legal implications and risks and all contracts are in accordance with SAP’s legal, contractual, and business processes and policies;
- deal with disputes and manage the legal aspects of customer escalations, and engage outside counsel as necessary;
- contribute to the overall success of the SAP Ireland Market Unit and be a recognised business partner through understanding business objectives and giving appropriate legal advice;
- build strong relationships and partner with account executives and sales managers;
- participate in other projects as the SAP Ireland Market Unit legal lead;
- ensure an appropriate level of internal governance is in place in relation to transactions and compliance
- demonstrate strategic legal insight and executive gravitas, confidently representing the company in high-stakes external engagements with public institutions, industry unions, and thought leadership forums.

WHAT YOU BRING

The ideal candidate needs:

- Degree in law and qualifications to practice in the jurisdiction or ability and commitment to qualify in the jurisdiction;
- excellent working knowledge of Contract, IT, and data protection law;
- experience in corporate legal functions including company matters and management of disputes
- experience in dealing with executive management and ability to represent SAP’s legal and compliance position with authority
- experience in negotiating complex commercial contracts (software/ services/ cloud) with commercial and public sector customers
- to be articulate and to thrive in a dynamic environment and to cope well with pressure (including quarter end pressures);
- to be a team player, including working in multi-disciplinary teams across the business,
- strong collaboration skills and ability to respond quickly and effectively to SAP’s sales executives and management; and understand and work according to the commercial pressures of a sales business in a high-pressure environment.
