Role/ Department:

An exciting opportunity exists to join the Custody Tax Operations group, supporting Northern Trust's global tax service offering.

The role will focus on executing complex tax processes, interpreting policies, guidelines, and/or processes, and handling queries and referring complicated issues to higher-level specialists as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Execute complex tax processes requiring expertise to interpret policies, guidelines, and/or processes
  • Handle complex queries and refer complicated issues to higher-level specialists and regional tax teams as needed
  • Research market changes, perform market analysis, and collaborate with other teams to effect operational tax changes
  • Contribute to periodic risk reviews of operational processes, procedures, and client-specific servicing deliverables, providing recommendations to strengthen same
  • Take on assigned tasks from management, working independently on tasks when necessary
  • Arrange and chair calls/meetings with other groups (internal or external), leading on behalf of the team, ensuring actions assigned to others are completed in a timely manner
  • Participate in project deliverables to implement efficiency enhancements
  • Provide training to more junior members of the team as required
  • Assist in developing metrics and reporting

  • Challenges assumptions in order to drive continual improvement, thinks creatively, and develops new ideas without increasing costs or risk
  • Fundamental technical knowledge of custodial responsibilities pertaining to withholding tax management, ideally gained through significant exposure to business disciplines, operating at a senior level
  • Leadership skills
  • Experience using Microsoft 365 packages (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio, Power BI) and SharePoint
  • Prior tax experience in the Financial Services area would be a distinct advantage
