Job Opportunity

The Role of a Senior Instructor

As a senior instructor, you will be responsible for creating and delivering high-quality programs and learning modules to service users with intellectual disabilities. This will involve writing, planning, implementing, and evaluating programs in various areas such as arts, crafts, social skills, woodwork, cookery, horticulture, and independent living skills.

You will also support the day services manager and basic instructors in the delivery of modules and courses as required. These courses may include specific skills, social development, personal care, and community integration.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and deliver programs that meet the needs and abilities of service users.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to deliver high-quality services.
  • Ensure that service user plans are aligned with New Directions Interim standards.
  • Act as person in charge in the absence of the manager of adult day services, as directed.
Essential Criteria
  • A level 8 qualification in teaching, nursing, applied social studies, social care, psychology, or behaviour analysis.
  • OR a level 7 relevant qualification and at least 4 years' experience working with people with intellectual disabilities, including autism.
  • Previous experience working with people with complex needs and communication difficulties.
  • An ability to instruct service users in all programs offered at adult day centers.
  • A full current driving license.
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience in developing QQI standard or similar day modules, recording evidence of goals and ambitions.
  • Knowledge of person-centered planning and managing behaviors that challenge.
  • Training in communication strategies.
