SOC Security Analyst Job Description

Overview: BlueVoyant is seeking a skilled SOC Security Analyst to join our team in Ireland. As a key member of our security operations center, you will play a critical role in helping our global customers manage their IT security and reduce the impact of security incidents.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Monitor and analyze security events and alerts from various sources, including SIEM software, network and host-based intrusion detection systems, firewall logs, and system logs.
  • Distinguish between genuine threats and false positives using network and log analysis, and escalate potential intrusions and attacks.
  • Initiate tickets, document, and escalate issues to senior security analysts.
  • Serve as a technical escalation point and mentor for junior analysts.
  • Foster strong communication with customer IT teams to inform them of issues, assist with remediation, and ensure business continuity.
  • Prioritize incoming issues by assessing risk and determining priority.
  • Collaborate with customers to deploy monitoring systems for hardware and software.
  • Stay informed about current threat landscapes.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Excellent teamwork skills.
  • Experience with intrusion detection/prevention systems and SIEM software.
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols and devices.
  • Proficiency in Mac OS, Windows, and Unix systems.
  • Able to analyze event logs and recognize signs of cyber intrusions/attacks.
  • Calm and professional under high-pressure situations.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills to present complex technical topics clearly.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for collaboration with globally distributed teams.
  • Able to provide recommendations for security tool tuning.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Background in network/host vulnerability analysis, intrusion analysis, digital forensics, penetration testing, or related fields.
  • 2-3 years of hands-on experience in SOC/TOC/NOC environments.
  • GCIA certification; GCIH, GCFE, CISSP, Security+, Network+, CEH, RHCA, RHCE, MCSA, MCP, or MCSE certifications preferred.
  • Familiarity with tools such as IDA Pro, PEiD, PEview, Procmon, Snort, Bro, Kali Linux, Metasploit, NMAP, and Nessus.
  • Familiarity with GPO, Landesk, or other IT infrastructure tools.
  • Understanding of programming/scripting languages and ability to run basic database queries.
  • Experience with ServiceNow.
