Senior Maintenance Technician

The Water/Wastewater Treatment Maintenance Senior Operative is a crucial role in the delivery of service to customers, protecting the environment and meeting regulatory standards while managing operational expenditure.

This position requires a strong remit over a geographical area and involves delivering planned and reactive maintenance activities. Out-of-hours working will be required, and appropriate overtime and standby rates apply.

We are currently recruiting for current vacancies across Dublin and have established a panel for future vacancies within the next 12 months.

• Support water & wastewater treatment maintenance services using electrical and/or mechanical craft skills.
• Undertake a range of mechanical tasks such as cleaning, servicing, inspecting, and testing replacement of worn parts or carrying out replacement of parts.
• Perform routine maintenance or removal of pumps, pump component replacements, engines, valves, gearboxes, specialist electrical interface hydraulics and pneumatics, fitting, pipe disconnections, and mechanical devices (such as bearings, couplings, brakes, and safety guards).
• Disconnect electrical power to carry out maintenance on mechanical equipment and reconnect or replace, where qualified to do so.
• Undertake a range of electrical tasks, which may include fault finding and diagnosis, overload setting, maintenance to motors, motor starters, generators, lighting, variable speed drives, instrumentation, and the calibration of process equipment, resetting of automation equipment, and variable speed drive parameter setting.
• Ensure personal safety by undertaking risk assessments and selecting appropriate equipment and safe working practices.
• Comply with health and safety systems and procedures.
• Provide mechanical and/or electrical maintenance support on water network assets (e.g., pumping stations) and secondary treatment plants, adhering to Uisce Éireann H&S requirements.
• Complete administrative tasks, including work orders, H&S records, risk-based maintenance management, and inventory management using technology systems provided.
• Record relevant data on existing or replacement assets using technology systems provided.
• May be required to work on medium and high voltage systems in certain plants.
• Utilize handheld devices to record data as required.
• Oversee relevant works involving third-party contracts/individuals as needed.
• Mentor team members as necessary.

• QQI Level 6 Advanced Certificate or equivalent in Craft of Mechanical Automation and Maintenance Fitting, Craft of Electrical, Craft of Construction Plant Fitting, or Craft of Heavy Vehicle Mechanics.
• Minimum two years' relevant work experience.
• Experience in coaching and developing team members.
• A good understanding of working within a strong health and safety culture.
• General knowledge of pumps, motors, munchers, dosing pumps, air blowers, compressors, sludge presses, aerators, welding skills, and familiarity with waterworks fittings (including valves, pipes) is preferable.
• Knowledge of potable water network systems fittings is an advantage.
• Experience working with automated control systems is advantageous.
• Proficiency in using IT systems and Microsoft Office applications (Word and Excel) is desirable.
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to resolve issues promptly using initiative.
• Excellent literacy skills.
• Previous experience in the water industry or other utilities is preferred.
• Ability to work in environments that may attract vermin, be noisy, and require ear protection and confined space entry using specialized equipment (with full training and risk assessment).
• Additional driving license categories are advantageous.
