Job Description:

The Flood Risk Management Specialist role involves assessing and mitigating flood risks using knowledge of civil engineering, geography, or geoscience. The successful candidate will work with support staff to collect and analyze data on flood risk areas, identifying potential hazards and developing strategies for mitigation.

The specialist will collaborate with engineers and other experts to design and implement effective protection measures against flooding. This includes conducting flood risk assessments and developing management plans to mitigate the impact of flooding on communities.

Operational staff will be supervised by the Flood Risk Management Specialist, ensuring that tasks are completed efficiently and effectively.Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • A minimum Level 8 (honours bachelor's degree) on the National Framework of Qualifications (NFQ) or NARIC Ireland Foreign Qualifications equivalent in Civil Engineering, Geography or Geoscience, or a similar discipline.
  • A minimum of four years relevant post-qualification experience in at least two of the following areas: flood risk assessment and management, hydrology and hydrological analysis, hydrometric data collection and processing, river engineering, hydraulics and flood mapping, coastal processes and analysis, surveying and remote sensing, and geographical information systems (GIS).
