About the Role

As a Principal Cost Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing all cost-related activities on site.

  • You will liaise with internal cost planning teams and external resources during project budget preparation stages to ensure accurate financial projections.
  • Your primary goal will be to manage and oversee cost management processes across the project, including the compilation and validation of cost reports, cash flows, and CRM documentation.
  • You must identify, consider, and accrue for all known and potential risks, implementing mitigation measures as necessary. You will foster an environment within the team that promotes early identification and effective risk management.
  • On a monthly basis, you will present a commercial pack to senior management, highlighting key financial metrics and trends.
  • You will be responsible for managing procurement schedules and ensuring scope accuracy for all subcontract packages.
  • This role involves managing payments to subcontractors, suppliers, and consultants, in addition to standard quantity surveyor duties.
  • You will demonstrate a clear understanding of the difference between cost and value, driving a value-seeking mindset throughout both the project QS team and overall project team.
  • Staying up-to-date with construction methods and technologies employed by our organization is crucial; you will promote continued professional development (CPD) within the project QS team.
  • Maintaining good relationships with subcontractors and suppliers is vital to this role.
  • You will prepare Part V submissions and conclude relevant negotiations.
  • Timely completion of the monthly QS cycle on site is your responsibility.
  • Leading and developing the project QS team, including direct reports, is also a key aspect of this position.
  • Working closely with the Project Manager to ensure successful delivery and completion of the project is essential.
