Key Responsibilities of a Data Centre Designer

The successful candidate will have expertise in the design and layout of structured cabling systems and network infrastructure for data centre builds and upgrades.

  • Interpret technical drawings, floorplans, and specifications to produce accurate network designs.
  • Collaborate closely with project managers, engineers, and external contractors to ensure project success.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive design documentation, including schematics, layout drawings, and design packs.
  • Conduct site visits and assessments to ensure feasibility and compliance with design requirements.
  • Support troubleshooting efforts and redesigns where network modifications are required.
  • Generate detailed Bills of Materials (BOMs) from design specifications.
  • Coordinate design work using Autodesk Navisworks for clash detection and 3D model integration.
Preferred Qualifications and Skills:
  • Degree in Building Services Engineering, Architectural Technology, Architecture, Civil/Structural/Electrical Engineering, Construction Management or Construction Technology.
  • Experience in structured cabling design, network planning, or data centre environments.
  • Familiarity with BIM/Revit, particularly producing LOD500 designs.
  • Knowledge of BICSI standards and/or RCDD certification.
  • Understanding of M&E services in a data centre context.
