Job Overview

Village Vets is seeking a highly skilled Veterinary Surgeon to lead our clinic team as the Lead Veterinary Surgeon. As a key member of our leadership team, you will have overarching responsibility for the holistic performance of the clinic and team under your leadership.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Be an ambassador for Village Vets, demonstrating our values and principles both internally and externally.
  • Lead the clinic team with a positive mindset, providing coaching and mentoring support to direct reports and the wider team.
  • Communicate effectively with the clinic team and Village Vets more widely, leading on communicating internal clinical, operational and group messages to the team through regular meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with operational, medical and other support functions to set the strategic direction of the clinic within our wider strategy.
  • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion, recognising and celebrating best practice and achievements within the team.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Be responsible for PAS Accreditation for the clinic, ensuring compliance with the VCI COS regulations.
  • Demonstrate sound clinical judgement, leading the team in clinical best practice to promote excellent clinical work.
  • Ensure clinical compliance with new initiatives, protocols and purchasing.
  • Identify development needs and provide or coordinate clinical mentorship to ensure clinical best practice and individual vet career progression.
  • Support the Head RVN in ensuring the nursing and ACA teams deliver exceptional care as a key part of the clinical team.
  • Promote preventative healthcare to all clients to facilitate the highest level of veterinary care.
  • Lead on a culture of valuing the clinical work delivered by the team, ensuring transparency around the cost of clinical work.

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Develop and deliver the annual business plan for the clinic, working with the Regional Director and business partners.
  • Achieve and surpass yearly and monthly clinic targets across the Profit and Loss account and Key Performance Indicators.
  • Report on the clinic performance on a monthly basis to the Regional Director.
  • Lead on ensuring clinic compliance with any new operational initiatives and protocols.
  • Lead on team engagement, ensuring all team members have an effective relationship with their line manager.

Requirements:

MVB qualification and further qualifications in leadership, finance or clinical training are required. At least 3 years qualified experience, including leadership and P&L management, is necessary. Autonomous decision-making skills, ability to work in a team and confident communication are essential.
