Linux Kernel Engineer Position

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Linux kernel engineer to join our dynamic team. This role requires a solid understanding of Linux kernel development, containerization, and Kubernetes.

The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience in the field, focusing on kernel development, OS upgrading, and contributing to open-source projects.

The responsibilities of this position include developing stable and performance-optimized Linux OS for Kubernetes platforms, designing and maintaining optimized Linux OS upgrade management systems, managing different runtimes in eBay cloud, and contributing to kernel development and optimization.

In addition, the successful candidate will be responsible for developing high-performance applications in Go and Python, implementing observability tools and practices to monitor system performance and health, collaborating with cross-functional teams to adopt new optimized Linux OS, and staying updated with the latest developments in kernel enhancements and security practices.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • At least 5 years of proven experience in Linux kernel development, familiar with Linux kernel internals, and strong programming skills in C++, Go, and Python.

  • Expertise in using Kubernetes for orchestrating containerized applications, network protocol knowledge, especially TCP/IP stack, and experience with observability tools and practices.

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies and ability to lead and empower others, taking responsibility for small projects and collaborating across functional teams to influence change.

  • Ability to identify gaps and issues across systems and functional areas, propose solutions, and drive those resolutions.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with Linux kernel development/triage, contributing to open-source projects, and certifications in kernel, networking, Kubernetes, or related fields.

  • Understanding Linux kernel tracing technologies or BPF, Intel x86 architecture, Qemu/KVM/Openvswitch, and experience in a high-traffic, large-scale environment.

  • Familiarity with additional programming languages or frameworks and proficiency in Agile development methodologies.
