Job Overview

AWS is set to introduce the inaugural European Sovereign Cloud (ESC), marking a significant development in utility computing. To spearhead this initiative, we are actively seeking experienced systems engineers with a strong background in cloud operations.

As part of the AWS Managed Operations team, you will play a pivotal role in building and leading operations and development teams dedicated to delivering high-availability AWS services, including EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, and Bedrock, exclusively for EU customers.

Your Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the launch of the ESC in 2025, collaborating with global AWS teams and influencing service and technology evolution.
  • Collaborate with technology leaders to enhance day-to-day operations and improve availability, reliability, latency, performance, and efficiency of ESC.
  • Build and lead operations and development teams delivering high-availability AWS services (EC2, S3, Dynamo, Lambda, Bedrock) for EU customers.
  • Contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of scalable cloud services and processes.
  • Participate in on-call rotations to address incidents outside of standard business hours.
Required Skills and Qualifications

This role requires you to be a national of an EU member state. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related IT discipline or equivalent industry experience is required.

Knowledge and Experience Requirements:

  • Knowledge or experience in scripting (Bash, Python, or Ruby) or software development (Java, TypeScript, or similar).
  • Linux and networking fundamentals to effectively troubleshoot and optimize system performance and reliability.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Execute standard operating procedures and follow operational best practices.
  • Operate service in AWS or other cloud systems or services.
  • Operate 24x7 high-availability, distributed software applications, performance tuning software applications, and optimizing fleet utilization and monitoring frameworks.
  • Infrastructure as Code experience.
